I've never met somebody thats that hard on axle tubes, isn't that the second axle on that truck thats been bent? Talk to James (1stgen4evr). That's all I will say.
Maybe you ought to just start looking for a spare 89-91 with 3 spd auto and 4x4. I'll buy the rest off of you.
I know that the Danas can be retubed. Dunno what it costs, but I'd think as long as the center chunk was not ruined it should not be that bad, but what do I know. Since you like your 308's I'd seriously consider at least repairing this one for a spare, especially since you USE your truck.
Michael the other axle was done by one of the previous owners.
I have no idea what happened on this one. My wife says my brothers drive way did it. His drive way would make a mountain goat cry. ROFLMAO
I am going to call Moser tomorrow. They know of a place in MI that can retube axles. I called them when I found the rear axle bent. On that axle they said it couldn't be retubed if both sides were bent.
I was watching a 61 on ebay about a month ago. Complete with no ends. The guy pulled the auction after two days. He only had a $250 bid on it.
I figure worse comes to worse I'll switch it over to 3:54's if I can't find a axle or housing.
I've cocked/bent a few axle tubes in 8. 8 Fords racing Mustangs, I've eaten up my fair share of spider gears. Is the tube itself bent, or is one end or the other cocked on the housing?
I haven't thrown a straight edge on the housing to find where it is bent at Niki.
The new spiders and axle fit each other till they are installed into the housing. Then the axle will only spline in about 1/2" then it locks up. The axle is hitting the top side of the houseing out on the end. The only thing that would cause that is a bent axle housing.
The old spiders I replaced in this carrier wouldn't accept the axle even out of the houseing. So I had a problem with that set of spiders.
Yeah I wouldn't either on the 4. 10's but the price was nice for both housings, providing no major parts were needed. Where in TN?, I'm right outside of Nashville.
