Front Brake Pads

Just noticed my front brake pads are getting a little thin. I looked on line at a parts store and noticed so many different brakes i don,t know what to get. Anyone got any good recommendations on what type of pads to put on?

Performance Friction Carbon Metallic pads!!! 10X better than normal semi-metallic pads. My truck still stops good, even when my back brakes are out of adjustment (about every 2 months). I don't remember the part number right now but they only make one model for our trucks. I got mine for about $35 (with tax). You can also find them online if your local parts store won't get them for you.

I'll second the PF pads. If you have the dough, EGR makes good brakes as well, though I have no personal experience with them (yet).

Witht he $$$ that you pay for EGR pads, your truck should stop itself without you ever having to touch the pedal. They should probably be self installing as well. :--)

Under advance auto parts web site i don,t see performace friction carbon metallic pads listed. Who are they made by and where can you get them? Would they be the same as Wearever Gold MKD269, Raybestos SSD269 SuperStop Semi-Met. ,or Raybestos PGD269M PG Plus?

Just do a web search for "Performance Friction". I came up with bunches of sites that sell them. I had a local parts store (Schuck's) that beats any prices. I took them a printout of the online offer and they beat it and had them for me the next day.



BTW, they are not the same as the numbers you mentioned. Those are "normal" semi-metallic pads.

What makes the PF brakes better than even the real expensive raybestos semi-metallic pads?

They are cheaper and work just as well or better, they are around $35-40 vs alot more for the other high end pads.

Not to mention that the semi-metallic pads are pretty hard on rotors.

I just replaced PF pads w/ Bendix Titanium Metallic from Advance Auto Parts. The Bendix pads have a full contact face and the PF Carbon Metallic have chanfered leading and trailing edges on the pads. The results is a smaller initial contact area unitil the pads are half worn.

I put Autozone loaded calipers on mine, along with the Canadien rotors they sell, I started getting a lot of brake squeel/noise after about 5k miles, now with 10k they are a little quiter but still noisier than before changing everything, it stops great... .

Just replaced my fronts with Wagner thermo quiet pads, list for $129. 00, got em for $70. 00 at a local autoparts dealer. Cant remember what the last brand was but i got 46000 miles out of them and believe it or not i got 40000 out of the factory pads.

I just put some Raybestos Quiet Stop pads on mine, no squeeling, and none to very very little brake dust. However, they are a bit pricey. I believe I paid $57 for them. But, I have had two sets on the truck. The first set was replaced after approximately 40K, only because I put balljoints, and rotors on the truck. The pads still had about 1/2 left. I am happy so far.
