ppeters,

Turn down the heads of the studs as in the head that keeps it from pulling thru the hub? I am confused. Doesn't the rotor go on the outside of the hub and the knurled portion of the stud fit thru the hub and rotor to hold it? I must not be envisioning this correctly then. If its the head thats not a big deal. If it is the shoulder on the stud thats a different story. If you can clear up the confusion it would help before I send them the money for something that doesn't work right.

As for the EGR setup, its a great high quality product. However the difference between $2000 and $600 is more than a little bit.

Am I pricing the wrong kits?

Thanks for any insight you can give.

$2000?:--)

More than just a little, I agree. When I priced the kit from EGR, he quoted a little over $800, including parking brake calipers (off a 76' to 78 El Dorado). Now I only did the rears, mind you. Hope that is what we are talking about.

Forgot one thing (damn memory): the rotors came drilled to fit the stock studs. The rotors supplied from TSM are from an 80' to 90' Ford 3/4 ton front brake system. Bolt pattern is correct, holes are *slightly* smaller than stock dodge studs. Additionally, the boss area on the back of the rotor where the stud head nests is also *slightly* smaller than the stock studs. Ergo, bore the rotor and turn the heads of the studs, everything OK.

Before committing, I checked this with EGR, and they said the same thing. I even asked Glenn at EGR about the TSM kit, because the gentleman at TSM said they supplied parts to EGR. Now I have no way to verify that, but Glenn at EGR stated that all the work that I have described is done prior to shipping out. This would be part of the difference in approach that I spoke about before.

At the time, the difference in price from EGR to TSM was about $100. I chose to pocked the money, but if I could do it again, perhaps it is money well spent.

As far as how they perform, I don't regret it in the least. I tow a 20' goose loaded with hay, as well as a tag horse trailer, and the braking performance over stock rear drums is noticable:D

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. That tracks with what I was led to understand. The $2000 was on the EGR web site and that may be for the Dana 80 setup. I guess I need to call both places and talk to them about what is actually what. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.

I thought "self- adjusting" meant you had to crawl under the truck and adjust 'em yerself. That has been my experience, anyway.
