I had my calipers off my 2000 2500QC 4x4 for lubrication as preventative maintenence and I noticed that the two sides were assembled differently. The passenger side was as the manual describes where the caliper is tilted out of the bracket from the top. However, the driver side had the anti-rattle springs installed so that it had to be tilted from the bottom to remove it (opposite the right side configuration). This is how it came from the factory. It seems that the driver's side is upside down but I'm not sure if it is a big deal or not. I was going to flip the springs around but decided to poll the experts before I did. I realize the bracket takes the rotational forces from the shoes but the hinge point would be preferably at the bottom as I see it. Anybody else seen anything like this or have any advice? Thanks in advance.

By the way, at 38k with mostly light loads or none, I have had no brake pull and have uniform wear on the inner and outer pads, both sides and lots of pad left.

KD - Good question! Maybe this is a shade tree "fix" from the factory? I'm going to rotate tires and lube caliper pins on my 2001 this weekend, I'll check to see if mine is assembled the same. I do have more brake dust on the right side, but no pull (yet?) so I'm real interested in your observation. What tool is necessary to back out the pins on 2 piston calipers?

I used a square drive Torx bit. I think it was a T-45.

I took a second look after I posted and it appears as though it is the same caliper both sides, just flipped over, therefore it folds in opposite on the left from the right. That means the rattle springs are switched top for bottom.
Has anybody else noticed this?
