Hey guy . Looking for the correct way to replace the front cover crank seal. Ive heard of different people doing it different ways but i want the correct procedure on replacement. Ive got the mahle jv5076 front timing cover gasket kit already. Just wondering if anyone has an actual printed instruction on how to do this or if i can find one somewhere.

Thanks guys.

First, I would fill in your signature as to what truck you have. I think you could get a few response this way.
Second, do you have a leak? If so are you still under warranty?
That all the help I can provide.

I posted here about the front seal leak I experienced on my brand new 2018 last year, I noticed it starting to leak a few drops from the seal within the first 1000 miles.
I cleaned the area and monitored for another 1000 miles and it stopped leaking. Now with nearly 10k miles and it is completely dry.

I'm glad I didn't take it apart and just kept an eye on it.

But if you do need to replace that seal, the correct procedure requires removing the fan clutch, the fan shroud, the harmonic balancer/pulley, and removing the front cover plate to install the seal from behind. Some shops will try a shortcut without removing the plate, they pry the old seal out and hammer the new seal in. I wouldn't do it that way.

here's a video to give you some idea:

Hopefully your leak is not coming from between the gear cover and the engine block, that would be a major job not recommended for the average mechanic.
