I have a 2007. 5 2500 4x4 and was thinking about trading to a 2011. From time to time, I hear that the front suspension and steering components are weak on the Dodge. Is this still the case with the new ones or has this all been taken care of? The steering on mine is a little loose feeling. Thanks.

According to the guy at our inspection lanes, the new front end is much better than on the older ones. Couldn't tell you exactly what that entails, though.

I'm not exactly sure if better is the right word. Updated might be better. My 04. 5 had a great front end no issues. I just added the BD steering Brace on my 2010. That fixed the wadering and bump steer I was having. Many with the 2010 are experiencing the same wandering problems, not all of them but many.

How come Dodge can't get this right. I am trying to decide between a new Ram and a new Silverado and this doesn't make it any easier to choose the Ram.

To be honest I don't think this is a wide spread problem. Like I said my 04. 5 was perfect. Now with the BD brace mine 2010 is perfect. I even added a Bilstein steering damper and the change to the way it drives now is amazing. The service guy saw the BD and was impressed by it's build. I told him about how it eliminated the wander. He said that was good to know. Because when customers come in and complain about the wander they don't have an answer because there is nothing that Dodge does about it.

I'm on two other forums and I had posted about the brace. Some had the wander and most didn't. But it does seem related to the steering gear. My advice is to test drive any truck at highway speeds and hopefully it a few bumps.

Besides I think the Chevy's will always have a better ride. I've always test drove all three. This time around there were no Chevy's to be had because of the massive rebate Chevy was offeing at the time. I'm not brand loyal but this is my second Dodge diesel. It also had the advantage of being the best priced out of the big three..... Choose well.

Thanks for the information. I guess my feeling is there shouldn't be a need for and aftermarket stabilizer bar. As heated as the competition is on HD trucks, you would think this would be a no brainer for Ram. I guess not.

My 2010 front end has alot tighter feel and zero wander compared to my 05 and 07 trucks although I have had somme customers with the 2010+ trucks report wandering problems. Most of the have solved it with either a brace as mentioned above or by the dealer warranty exchanging the steering box.

Just got new 2011 3500 Crew 4x4 Laramie,Cheaper than buying a 2500 loaded !!! Anyway front end is GORILLA BIG !!! makes my 1997 25004x4 look small !!! Drives like a "Caddy" GREAT truck JUMP IN, buy big or don't buy LOL. !!!!
