Wanted to see if anyone has mounted a 2" receiver on the front of a 3500? Such a receiver could be used for bike racks, platform carriers, or moving trailers around from the front of the truck.

I had one on the front of my old truck. I found it useful.

You can see pictures of it at: http://www.dodge-diesel.com/static/warn.html

I made my own with a 4"x3/4 bar stock welded a receiver tube to it and bolted to crossmember and the rails using some existing holes, works great, in a crash. A kid ran a stop sign in a ford probe and it tore the door skin off and ripped the rest of the side out, the front seat was left hanging from the seat belt also works great for a weight mountwhile truck pulling.

Ramman. .
I had a similar hitch on my 80 Dodge crewcab.
I also had a lady turn in front of me in a parking lot. Tore a 4" slot in the side of her car from the front tire to the rear bumper. No damage to mine. Also works great for launching boats.

I have one on my 2500 4x4-- was abt $140 @ Dick Cepek a couple years ago... came from Warn. measurements at the factory were VERY exacting #ad
... needed to use floorjack to press into place, as there seemed to be no room for the thin layer of paint... a fit that perfect doesn't require any frame-flex at all (due to the mountbolts squeezing the truck frame like a clamp)... you can fabricate a small standing platform to make some of the underhood reaches a little easier, too---I like mine, but don't use it very much... install was easy (less than 2 hours, including "where's the wrench" time)

------------------
BOMBed 98. 4 1B7KF23D4WJxxxxxx-- BD's #5 plate and x-honed injectors--BD Brake and the associated transmission bomb goodies (except for TC,currently). . many homemade non-power accessories... big hole and old Scotty Air system(will eventually get Psychotty cannon, I suspect) camper shell, Warn front receiver, G159Unisteels on Rickson 19. 5's. . CD player is bone stock, so are the seats. PrimeLoc, also remote spin-on filter for the auto trans... Pyro Boost and Trans temp from Isspro,
Westin nerf rails(black),
bent welding rod to hang celphone on dashboard...

I have the Warn unit and like it. You can maneuver a trailer into tighter quarters because the turning radius is so much tighter in front than in back.

'00 2500 reg cab LB 4x4, 5spd, LSD, PowerEdge(button ducktaped in Level III position) Van Aaken, 275 injectors, combo boost/egt guage(really just an egt guage since I blew the boost line off the guage after installing the PowerEdge), line-x, alumasport diamond toolbox, vernier idle controler, cold front, Warn front receiver, ventvisors and stepguards by autoventshade, OEM foglights, Super H headlight bulbs, my own "brite box", hide-a-hook, loadsaver, G-tech, name a factory option - I don't have it!

I have the Draw-tite. Installed it myself on 3500 QC 4x4. Works great.

Anybody use a 2" receiver w/DC tow hooks?

Ramman - I agree with you that tow hooks should be standard equipment on a 4x4. However, they are not standard equipment on our trucks and IMO the factory tow hooks/mounting kit are the best available. I prefer to have a tow strap pulling directly on the frame as opposed to the mid span of the receiver. The force required to unstick a vehicle can be much greater than the force required to back a trailer on hard packed dirt or concrete.

Brian,If it brakes a 3/4"x4" steel bar the frame will be toast anyway. it's bolted to both frame rails and the front cross member with 6-1/2" grade 5 bolts and washers. Take a look at the mounting of a rear receiver the bolt on flanges are only a 1/4" and it held all the truck could pull with a real sled behind it more than once. I do like the hooks but call me cheap.

Fabricated one for myself on my old '81 Dodge Ram. Copied one I checked out at the parts store. Worked great for boat launching and for manoeuvring my travel trailer around in otherwise impossibly tight spots. Well worth the effort. Probably will make one up for the new(er) DC.
