Front mud flaps

Is anyone running front flaps? If so what kind, solid or flexible? I am not thinking of the ones that are part of running boards, nor the small plastic Dodge factory type but aftermarket diamond plate or rubberized type?



Anyone have pics if they are running these?

I bought EricBu12's extra long black ABS plastic ones. I must say the are by far the best thing I've bought for my truck. The look is perfect, like that longer length, easy to install... and most of all they really work.



I tried contoured ones... they are in a box in the garage. Waste of money. I also bought some diamond plate ones with a set back to hang a rubber flap on. They were fine... just not the look I was really looking for. They too are in a box in the garage.



I'll get a photo of mine installed and post it.

I just ordered a set of (I believe) contoured mopar mud flaps from the dealer at a cost of $126. Should I be looking elsewhere?

I've tried a bunch also. I had husky liners molded, but they were bad on the paint and sit in the garage now.



I had diamond plate flaps with rubber extensions. I made them myself (had to trim the front flaps to clear the inner-fenders. I had about $60 invested in them. They wroked the best, just not the look I wanted.



Now I have some fairly rigid plastic flaps that are small. They don't work as well, but they get the job done and I like the looks. To each his own.



I've seen the northwest flaps, and if you like diamond plate (or stainless), they sure are nice.

What ever you get hang em low. The lower they are the more paint they protect. And these don't get ripped off by hanging so low, this is the 4th Dodge truck I've owned with this set up and it works good. #ad

Guess it depends on your budget. You can spend $15 a piece (or probably less) or up to $125+ a piece. And more with chrome add-ons, etc.



I got the mopar ones for about $36 for a set of 2. Work fine for me and although a bit short even in the 4x4 length, I plan on BOMBin' them by adding about 3-4" of additional cut mud-flap.



For the money spent, I'm very happy.

Crazy Horse - I like the looks of those. I have been looking for something long that looked good. What did you make them out of? Where did you get it?



I have thought of going to local Cummins shop and buying some full-size "C" semi flaps and cutting them down, similar to what you have - just made of rubber instead. I figure I can cut them down with straight edge and a couple good sharp carpet knife blades. I just can not spend $400 on flaps right now. I like NWCustom the best of all I have seen - from a looks perspective.



Thought if I make my own and they flapped too much, I could attach a weight at the bottom similar to NWCustoms or something of the kind.

I get these at a local store here in Anchorage called Six Robblees at the Diamond Store. They are made out of a flexible hard rubber/vinyl. The only thing I do is notch the inside if the flap so it lays flat against the fender and is not cocked sideways when you look at it standing off from the side of the vehicle. They do sail at highway speeds but when you are on rough gravel, tar / oil roads going at slower speeds I've never had this stuff get by them; even on the old dually where the rear fender sticks out. I think they are $20-$25 pair. Call Ron, tell him Phil sent you.

When I worked for the oil patch, we just took some old web belting and cut that to shape. Never wears out and the cost is zilch!

Running the Cummins/Dodge dually flaps on the front of my rig, well, I was until 2 weeks ago enroute to Muncie. While on my way in the backwoods of Mississippi I had to back up on this dirt road with trailer in tow , all was fine till the front end dropped down into the ditch, BAMM the flaps wedged themselves between the tires and the debris on the side of the road and tore off the inner splash panels and sucking the fender itself into the door!! Must say my bullet proof install did work though, they were still attached to the splash panels! Time to get estimates for repairs tomorrow, "Hello , Allstate?" Mark
