At 230,000 miles, I guess it is time to replace brakes and check bearings. But my local shop says the front is hubs... ... ... ... ... . do we not just re-pack and go again... ... ... ... ... ... ... they want to replace whole hub assy.

What gives?

I hate to break it to you, Barry, but the 2wd is a sealed unit bearing. No repacking, no servicing. You must replace the whole thing as a unit. Yes, it sucks. When I did mine in April '10, I saved my old ones with the idea that I'd try to figure out a way to rebuild them. Haven't gotten around to it yet.

Good luck,

Larry

Pacific Clutch

If you will contact Jim Gale at Pacific Clutch & Brake, he has sourced some bearings for both 2 & 4wd trucks that are the sealed bearing type. Last time I spoke with him a year or so ago it was around 275-300 for both front bearing units. Here is his contact info:

Spokane, WA 99202-4520

Hope that helps.
