I'm just venting.

Yesterday my wife wanted to stop at an outdoor market and said 'why don't you go look at some Fords to compare to the Dodges'. So, I did... Drove the new 6. 0 with a 5-speed auto. It was quiet but didn't seem to want to go until it was north of 2000 rpm. I liked the low end of the Dodge 6-speed HO we drove next. I would have driven a 6-speed Ford if they had one. I'm really mad that Dodge didn't make a real cab. Almost like they just turned the doors around on the Quad cab. The Ford is like a full size car and a Dodge is more like a truck with some room behind the front seats. I was hoping for more and they have let me down.

Matt. you live in Maui. It's hard to feel sorry for anyone that lives in Maui!!! ;) The weather is so nice, just mount some chairs in the bed.

I'm with you on the small back seat, the ford is so much bigger, and comfortable. also whats up with dodge not offering front bucket seat???? I drove several fords with 5-speed auto's(another thing ford is better at) and found them to be very responsive, and quick. I look to be purchasing a new truck soon, and think ford would be a good choise if they get the bugs out of the 6. 0L.

Hmmm Lets See..... Flower Choke 6. 0 FORD= Found On Road Dead

I always said I would buy a Ford if I had to have 4 doors and Dodge did not make one (Now they do and Plenty of room for us) Now I would Buy a Chevy Duramax before a Ford for sure... I LOVE MY NEW RAM 3500 CTD !!!!!!!!!!

I juzt bought a 2003 White 4 door dually,H. O. six speed 4x4 slt Two weeks ago. ALL the FORD guys I pass and at stoplights etc. ALL STARE!! At the DODGE. I LOVE IT:D

Just MHO, but I am totally of the opposite opinion. I think the Dodge quad cab has plenty of room for adults in the back, and I think it's great that I can have a quad/crew cab short bed truck with the same wheelbase and length as a regular cab long bed. It's a lot of truck in a maneuverable package.

The quad cab was definitely a plus for me vs. the ford's crew cab with it's longer wheelbase.

we're talking about personal preferences, obviously, with regards to the back seat room. I think Dodge did their marketing homework on this one, even though the measure of success will be market share. you have to pay a price for that extra room, in the form of a longer wheelbase and vehicle length, and I happen to think that they make the right choice. my only gripe is that they took 3 inches out of the bed. For them to do that, means that they took great pains to keep the vehicle length and wheelbase down. for the 4WD owners especially who actualy go off road, this is important.

I certainly agree that if what you want is a full size back seat just like an SUV, and that is more important than vehicle length, turning radius and wheelbase, then yea -- Ford did their marketing research too and came up with a huge truck. The 2003 Ford short bed is nearly as long as the Dodge long bed!

i got a real cab i dont know what you are talking about! my dad is 6-2 and he fit nicely. the question is how big do they need to be? have you seen the commercial. i know i can cut circles around a ford and at the same time have two people over 6'-0 in my backseat laughing their a$$ off at the ford turning 4000rpms trying to keep up with me. How about that:p

A chevy is the nest best thing to a CTD Furds are not even close with that new 6L... ..... this is my response to thier new truck(this happens every time see those little lights on the mirrors)..... my friends and i are in chorus:-laf :-laf :-laf :-laf :-laf

I have had nothing but complements about the cab of my Dodge and some of the complements have come from Ford owners. As a bonus, the split seat with the folding floor is a marvel. I think that Dodge really did the home work on the design of this truck, inside and out.

My garage is 24' deep and the Dodge fits in with barely just enough room to walk by the front to check under the hood. I would not have enough room to put one of those monsters from Ford in there;) .

I sat in the back of the truck for around 20 minutes and my legs were bothering me. Has anyone spent some serious time in the back? I'm a comfort guy. To me room=comfort. I've spent more hours than I care to on airplanes to know what a difference a few inches make. I don't care how long my truck is. If I want to go 4-wheeling, I'd use a Jeep. I agree that the solid flat floor is great. I could go on but there wouldn't be a point other than razzing people. Everyone has different requirements. Some people want a truck to be a car so they get a short bed. Others just want a truck. I am looking for both in one package.

So. Has any spent some time in the back seats for a long road trip? I felt like I was sitting up straight and my knees didn't have enough support to be comfortable. Is this something that you get used to? My current ride has a bench seat that I got used to.

This is what I was originally asking but really didn't word it correctly.

Thanks.

My boss has a ford with the club cab (not crew cab) & short box & my qc easily out turns it.

I can,t imagine what the crew cabs turn like. ( or doesn't turn like)

Ford seems to make something for everyone;

- A truck that looks like a car (half ton)

- We have the Cummins

- A truck that looks like a dodge

- We have the Cummins

- A standard cab, ext. cab. & a full crew cab

- We have the Cummins

- A short box duelly

- We have the Cummins

- A 450 & a 550

- We have the Cummins

Dodge is way behind

SUVs;

Ford

- Escape

- Expedition

- Excursion (diesel too)

- All the Murcery counter parts

Dodge;

- 1

All I can say is "It's a good thing We got the Cummins "

Let's face it- Ford is the giant when it comes to the truck market.

For me ,however, the Cummins in a 3/4 size crew cab is the perfect combination.

How many times have you heard these statements

If the Ford had a cummins I would buy it

or

If the Dodge had a full crew OR a 4500 I would buy it

We got what we got & they got what they got And they especially look good in the rear view mirror

My old pickup won't fit in many garages. Bumper to Bumper slightly over 25 ft not including the ball bar. Turning radius wasn't nothing to brag about when the truck was stock, now forget u-turns or backing unless you got an acre. But stretched out smooths the ride some and it spends it's life on the road. Saw a newer F350 CC Dually with my same Cab Conversion and a custom flatbed, had to be pushing 30 foot.

Cheers, Steve J.

I for one would love to see a picture or two of your cab conversion inside and out.

Sounds like the perfect -over the road- pick up

Matt, two things, don't ride in the back, drive it. Also you live on a small Island, how long would anyone have to sit in the back seat? If you do buy a Ford 6. 0 please let us know how it works out for you :-laf

Pit bull,

Not sure what you have against someone living in Maui but second no value added comment. MO is a good looking state from what I remember driving through there on my way out here. I wouldn't be ashamed of it. If the family isn't happy... I'm not happy. My current truck is a 1990. I tend to keep them for a while. I'm not going to live here forever and you'd be amazed how long it takes to drive on an island with 2 lane roads. Sometimes there isn't even 2 lanes. One of the drives is 120 miles and takes a good 8 hours. That is a lot of time to be uncomfortable.

djbobo,

I would rather see a Ford cab on a Dodge frame/power train. The axles aren't as large as the ones in the Dodge and the ZF 6-speed has a poor shift pattern in my opinion. I think both the 6. 0 and the 6. 6 engines are for people with automatics who want a gas engine. I prefer my low end torque and fuel mileage.

I still need to hear from someone who has experienced a long ride in the back. I would also like to see a pic of OTRPU's ride.

As posted above, its a matter of personal preference, and its all give and take, there is no perfect combination for everyone. If you want a huge back seat, go ahead and get the ford six-point-blow. I'm sure some cummins owners will toot the horn at you as they pass you by when you're stopped on the side of the road, calling the dealer for another 're-flash', :-laf

I agree, anyone who lives on maui has no right to complain about anything;). You could be driving a pinto and your quality of life doubles ours. Maui is like walking around in a post card, don't take it for granted mr matt!!:) :)
