I have a quesiton about fuel additives. Can they go bad at all if stored in a semi-hot climate? I keep a bottle of that Power Service "Diesel Kleen" under the back seat and being it gets hot inside the truck during the day while sitting outside during the work hours and I was just wondering if that hurts the performance properites of it? The bottle doesn't say to store it in a certain climate temp but I thought i would ask if anyone knew.

Also, can it hurt the engine any if you mix a full tank of fuel with a little more than is recommended? For example, it says it will boost my cetane 6 numbers when the entire 32oz is mixed with 100 gallons and 3 numbers when 16 oz is mixed with 100 gallons. So I usually can get about 4 tanks per 32 oz bottle, but I was wondering if it would hurt the engine any if more than recommended is used per 35 gallon tank full? Maybe 16 oz per 35 gallons... . which would probably put me over the 6 cetane numbers..... not sure, have to break out a calculator, but anyone know if this would hurt the engine any?

IMO, truth be known, I doubt they can produce the cetane numbers they claim, and I've been told by Redline and Howes you can't harm anything by exceeding dosage (within reason).

Not sure about storage and shelf life, but this stuff is not that exotic.

I wont keep the additives inside my cab for 2 reasons. If they leak they stain BAD! And if they leak they have a tremendous odor that can be overwhelming. But on another note, I've been running DieselKleen products for over 3yrs now and I haven't had any problems with a little "overdosing". I have also not experienced any problems with using additive that's been in the toolbox for a while.

I definately know what your saying about the stains and odor. I just put my last bottle in the tool box today cuz it was leaking a bit and stinkin' up the cab some. Nothin a good air freshiner can't eliminate though.

Thanks for the experienced info on "overdosing" the additive. I thought it really wouldn't do any kind of permanent damage of any kind. I used to use about a half a bottle per tank fill up and now since a word from a wise man @ Cummins told me about a year ago not to get wild with it, I use about 1/4 a bottle per tank fill. Didn't really seem to make a difference, but I thought it was a good idea. :)

Flame suit is on. Overdosing depends on the additive. With Stanadyne you can not o/d. Over 4 years ago I had a slight "stick" in my P7100. Went to authorized Bosch repair shop. Told to remove fuel filter and fill it up with Stanadyne. Install and run truck for a few minutes until the Stanadyne was in the pump. Let truck sit overnight then drive as usual. It freed up the pump and caused no damage. I have done this with other diesels and have never had a failure due to a Stanadyne o/d.
