That's why i am careful. Hygroscopic fuel sitting for a month in my truck could develop a growing microbe issue. If i lived on a cold dry climate, i wouldn't worry

Having ran 9,996.3 gallons through my truck in the last 24 months, I don't have to worry about fuel staying in my tank for any extended period of time. :-laf

After reading up on this issue and from the recommendations above, I placed my first order with Opti-lube. XPD on the way! I'll burn up the last of my Lucas Fuel Treatment and then start burning XPD. Thanks for the info everyone..... especially Newsa! :)

An interesting view by Fleet Owner:

A very well balanced article. I drive my 2500 less than 10,000 miles per year. So the occurrence of diesel gums/deposits are much more likely. Also the likely hood of an algae/bacterial bloom in the fuel tank is more likely when fuel sits in my tank for 3 or 4 weeks. This was written by someone who runs trucks 50,000 to 80,000 miles per year

No additives here either, nor programmers nor deletes... Too afraid something will mess it up...

I decided to add a couple of ounces of power service biokleen.

Just to clean the tank and fuel system of any petrophilic critters that may have gotten in there and prevent them fro growing/multiplying.

Just check out JDoremire's experience in the above linked article if you want to know why.

Shouldn't need to do it more than once every year or 2. Just as a precaution. A couple of ounces acts as a shock treatment and will leave some on the walls of the tank as a preventative.

Observation: I have only been using Opti-Lube XPD Diesel additive for about a month now….. I have followed the Opti-Lube instructions regarding mix ratios and I have always wondered if such a small portion of additive could really be doing anything. Well, I changed my fuel filter last weekend..... first filter change since I started using the Opti-Lube. Anyone using XPD knows it has a distinct smell….. not good, but not bad either, in my opinion. I wasn’t specifically looking for the Opti smell in my Diesel, but once I removed the filter cap….. the smell was very noticeable. Even at 4 oz lube to 15 gallons Diesel…. It is detectable by smell. Amazing. I can’t say that I have noticed any huge MPG or performance improvements, my truck feels strong, always has and still does. I do believe in the Opti-Lube lubrication properties for my pump and injectors. Also, I can say that the Opti-Lube customer service is terrific…. Very knowledgeable and prompt shipping. Thanks for the Opti-Lube tip Newsa!

I knew it was good when I accidentally spilled a half ounce on the ground when fueling. The wind blew it.
Then when I stepped in it and slipped and fell on my behind, I decided I wanted that slippery stuff lubricating my fuel system.
Treated diesel fuel is nowhere near as slippery! I have not used additives for the 33 years I have been driving. But I will continue with my 6.7 cummins.
But might reduce to 4 ounces every other tank full.

In 2007, I ran Stanadyne only once in my 07 6.7, when in Colorado for 3 days at temps @ 0*. Question for 16919, at the time of converting from LSD to ULSD, Stanadyne had a Emissions friendly formula that was approved for DPF equipped trucks, is this still advertised and has it proved itself from 2007 to be true? Other than this one time use due to cold temps, I have not run any additive since. Sorry JDoremire, I like Marvel Mystery Oil, as you can add it to your oil, diesel & gas and has been used for 70+ years in fleets. But not in my 07 or the 2014, due to my DPF, I want to keep it clean as possible to prevent replacement.

Yes it's still advertised as safe for DPF. In 07 I had a vp44 truck noted in my sig. Back then it noticeably quieted it down, helped ease startups, etc. With my new truck I have ran it since day 1 and have had no issues.
