I see that there are a lot of people that use fuel additives. Do you use these year round, everytime you fuel up, or on a schedule?

I use fuel additive year around, winter for anti-gel and summer for cetane improvement and to help keep injectors clean. Regards, Ron

Use the additive every fill-up its good for cleaning the injectors and lots of other good stuff. Most on here that use it, use it every tank. Pete

Every tank. The Power Service I buy treats 100 gallons. 66 gallon aux. and 34 gallon OEM makes it just right. I think it is a cheap investment.

My brother-in-law is a blender . . oil's, grease, lube oil and other petro products . . He manufactures a product called "Power Plus", a diesel fuel conditioner which has Cetane Boost, Injector Cleaner, Lubricity & Fuel Stabilizer. He makes another product which has a dispersant to address water in fuel.

I try to remember the "Power Plus" every fuel up . . but definately every other tank I pour in 4 oz of conditioner. I use the one with the dispersant once every 4 months or so, I use that one to address the bottom of the fuel tank.

$40 dollars a gallon which treats 1000 gals of fuel. And at 4oz per fillup thats about 35 tanks, or about $1. 14 per tank treatment. Cheap protection in my mind.

I have 20k miles on the Cummins, using the conditioner with no fuel system problems to date. I can't see where it hurts to use . . especially a conditioner that helps the lubricity of the fuel which in turn helps the fuel pump.

My . 02 cents

Michael

<font color=blue>I just started using Stanadyne recently, I have 14,600 miles on my truck. Put it in for the first time at my last fillup. So I can't really say much about it yet.

Whatever additive you use make sure it contains no alcohol.

I use lucas's additive for diesel, my dad has been running it for years in the oil field on all his trucks and has not had any problems with them. I have 78,000 miles on my truck and not a problem with the fuel system. Just wish I could find an additive to for the front end.

Eagle... I have 40k on my truck and I haven't used additives. Pulled my injectors the other day and they had a lot of buildup on them. I WILL use an additive from now on as soon as I decide which one to go with. #ad

99% of the time I use the same Pacific Pride station that is local to me. He treats the fuel and I never have to! you can tell the difference too, Its a much higher citane then the local "gas" stations sell.

DCI+ in every tank all year long. The number one reason to use a fuel additive, IMO is to increase the lubricity of the fuel.

I use Power Sevices Diesel Fuel Supplement in every tank. $2. 75 a quart here, treats a hundred gallons. Raises cetane, has pump lube in it, lowers wax point, cleans injectors, etc.

Do you guys recommend waiting till after break-in to start using vitamins/additives?

How about the very first tankful in a new truck? I've heard that phord specifies a certain additive in the first tankful... not that the cummins injection system is anything like the PSD thank goodness!!!

I've used Standyne and now use LE DCI+ since my second tank. Have never noticed any increase in performance or milage, but thats not what I use it for.
Vaman, an additive is to keep the inside of the injectors clean. biuld up on the outside is carbon deposits. When I changed ijectors at 12k there was a considerable amount of biuld up on the outside but had a good spray pattern and flow when tested.

joesoot;

See my earlier post . . but I've regularly used a conditioner from the 3rd tankful until now.

In my opinion . . the quicker you add a conditioner with a lubricity agent in it . . the quicker the fuel system and injection pump becomes happier.

Im NOT a diesel mechanic NOR an engineer . . It just makes sense.

In the engine oil arena . . you want to rings to seat before going synthetic, that's why you wait until the engine's broke-in. In the gear boxes and rear ends . . the quicker you add high performance oils the better.

I think the lubricants added in the fuel system are in the same catagory as the gearboxes . . the sooner the better.

IMHO

I picked up some Stanadyne (blue) last Friday at a local shop. The shop owner swears by the stuff and said he puts in some at every fill up. He is a Bosch certified shop and says the main reason he recommends the additive is simple: if ANY water gets to the VP44 it will kill the pump..... unless there is an additive in the fuel that takes care of the pump in case that happens. He said Stanadyne will take care of it. In addition, it boosts cetane, cleans injectors, lubricates and a host of other things. By the way, if you buy it by the case it is a lot cheaper than by the bottle.
