Fuel and/or tools?

Extend my range, cheap, quick and easy?

Front reciever hitch

Yes, the recent fuel situation finally has finally got me the round tuit I needed, so increased fuel capacity is on the short list. Question is, whether to go with just fuel, or one of the fuel/tool box combos.

With the combo, I'll only gain 30 gal fuel, and I'd like to have more. However, if I go with the 50 or 70 gallon fuel only, then I've got no tool storage left. And I'm not going down the road without tools on board somewhere.

The truck is a short bed, and with the automatic slider hitch in the bed, there's not a lot of options space wise. Plus I have to stay even with or below the bed rails so the fiver can pivot without hitting something sticking up.

I'm pretty settled on the transfer flow brand, although if there's something else out there that will fit, I'm all ears. Problem is in fitting the Dodge short bed- many will not, for example the Northern 60 gal fuel/tool box is too wide to fit forward of the wheel wells.

Anyone else have a trick solution?

Thanks-

I ordered my 51 gal. combo from RDS Aluminum (supplies Northern) along w/their gravity flow install kit. It fits nicely between the wheel wells w/about 1" clearance on each side. Don't know how far your slider rails come forward but I've been very pleased w/the tank. I went plain diamond plate and had my bedliner place spray it for me. I really liked the reputation of the Transferflow but just couldn't justify paying twice as much more.

What about a replacement tank in the OEM spot? In the new TDR someone did a nice write-up of the Aerotank. Is that an option for you Gary?

Wolfman- I measured and thought the Northern tank was too wide... I'll have to check again.

Mberry- there is a larger tank for the 8' bed, but not for the short bed. At least according to what I've found so far.

Thanks,

Gary

I know there is a replacement tank available for the shortbed somewhere. Problem is I'm having a "senior moment" and can't remember who makes it.

I have an account with RDS there in Perry, FL. so I just whupped out my RDS catalog and the 51 gallon combo is... . 50"long... ... 19"high..... and 20"deep and it says it is rated for a short bed... ... ... ... . Ask for "Sam"... ... He is a neat old guy in sales. If you happen to be up that way, pick it up at the factory yourself... ... ..... save a bundle on freight..... :D

Thanks, Barry. I had not seen any dimensions on the RDS before, so I missed that tank. It is 50" long vs. 57" for the one sold through Northern.

50" will fit between the wheel wells at the front corner, so that's what I've been looking for.

Gary.
