Half a millimeter on a socket that size is nothing. 1-1/8 is perfectly fine.

Some of us will dwell on overfilling our crank cases by half a quart, you dwell on .5 mm on a large socket. You're as goofy as the rest of us.

On that same logic you should go along with me and have 12 actual quarts in your engine after an oil change NOT 12qts and 8oz.

So I will pull out my 28MM six point impact from my SK set and start using it if you will agree to only have 12qts oil in your engine after an oil change.

I hate storing 8 oz of left over oil, so I put it in my crank case. That way I know where it is at during the next oil change cycle.

I had all the issues you mentioned and with a myriad of elbows and extensions i was able to get it loose. The hardest aspect for me was to get in a position there i could turn the wrench and get leverage on it. the 4x4 was so high that i could not get in a position to apply steady pressure. Thanks Kirwin for the pic of the straight down path to the filter lid. I need to try that path. It looks to be much more in line with the bolt axis and would make it easier to apply constant pressure.
