Many Thanks to everyone for your help! $168 and 15 min. New LP and up and running. 14 psi @ idle and 11 with throttle. No hesitation any longer (that I can tell). Hopefully I can help someone as you all have helped me. Thanks AGAIN!

Jeff:)

The saga continues... I now have good pressure coming from the lift pump, but the codes 1693 and 0216 are still coming up after clearing them. Looks like I'll be checking into a VP44. Is there an easy way to test the VP44 before shelling out the cash?

Are you still having the other symptoms, or just the codes? Are you measuring the before filter or after filter pressure? Make sure the filter is OK before you go for the VP now that you know the LP is good.

yes, not nearly as bad now. I reset the TPS/APPS and problems even got better. I still have not quite got normal power, i get a little puff of black smoke only when starting from a dead stop and every once in a while, while coasting downhill, i'll get the dreaded flooding like senario. Codes 1693 and 0216 have returned. I can't remember if I'm measuring before or after the filter. I just put a new filter in though. I'm getting 14 psi at idle and between 8 and 11 WOT. I finally broke down and scheduled an appointment to take it to cummins. He said at first he didn't think it's the VP44, but after giving him the whole story, he's pretty sure it is. If it is the VP44. . he said $1100-1200 to replace. Wish me luck.....

The saga continues... .

Took my truck to Mountain Truck and Equipment in Longmont. They told me they pretty much new what was wrong with it and that they could test it and tell me what was wrong, no problem. After taking time off of work, arranging for a ride, and driving past many dealers to take it to a "place that knew what they were doing", I explained what the truck was doing. The guy said, "had a truck in here a little while ago doing the same thing. We had 2 weeks into it and now we know what to look for. " I also asked them to adjust the valves. The next day I called them to see if it was done. They said, "we don't have the tester to read your truck, so we checked the grounds to the computer then road tested it, and everything looked ok. " Boy what a disappointment. After asking them about the truck that they had two weeks into, they fessed up and said that they had to take it to the local dealer who found the problem. Hopefully they adjusted my valves correctly. I now have an appointment at my local dealer to get to the bottom of the problem. I'll keep ya'll posted.

Well... . 2 months and $2200 later. I had the VP44 replaced. All is back to normal. Thanks to everyone for your help and advise. I hope this one lasts longer than 30K miles.
