Transmission Question

Assuming you know where the filter housing is located, it’s fairly simple. I always open the drain valve and let it run for a few seconds before screwing the top off. After you’ve taken the top off the housing, pull the filter out. When I pull the filter out, I put it into a Ziplock bag so fuel doesn’t get everywhere. Once the housing is empty, I wipe it out with a rag. Close the drain valve, insert new filter, replace the cover gasket and screw the cap back on. I then bump the key without starting the truck. You’ll hear the pump running. When the pump stops I bump it again. I’ll do this 4-5 times. Then turn the key and the truck should start.

Filter housing needs to be drained entirely prior to remove the old filter.
Otherwise contamination of the clean part of the housing will occur.

Thanks to both for your info. Didnt think it looked to difficult but wanted to make sure I wasnt missing anything. Some Dealer told me I had 2 filters to replace, but I then checked with a few others & they said with 07 5.9L that there is only one, they only want about $185 to do the job. Should I stick with the OEM or as some recommend the Baldwin or Hasting, any advice there?

To add to the above advice. I clean the filter lid and surrounding area so that when I pull the filter out, dirt doesn't fall into the housing. I also wipe some small amount of grease lightly around the new O ring. That helps it to seat easily and not get pinched. DON'T over tighten the lid on the fuel filter! The LID itself doesn't do the sealing, the O ring does.

I always stuck with Fleetguard on my '05. As pointed out, clean before removing lid. It's a very easy filter to change. Tramplineman has it spelled out, just be sure to bump the starter, not just turn the key to run.
