just curious where people were getting fuel filters from when they replace them. Are people typically going back to dodge or getting an after market one? Is there a difference in quality? I know this is all personal preference, but just curious what the word on the street was. Thanks

I would call geno's garage www.genosgarage.com and they will sell you a fleetgaurd filter. I think there the same thing that Dodge carries but at half the price. They also have your oil filters. There the better filters for our trucks.

Go to Geno's to order. I can't find them anywhere in S Dakota

at the price Geno's charges... including shippping.

Hit your local Cummins distributor or Kenworth shop if you need one in a hurry. Geno's is reasonably priced and the convenience is really nice. Keep a couple on hand too, one bad tank of fuel can easily use up 3 or 4 filters.

I use only Fleetguard filters in mine, I would have no trouble trusting a Napa gold filter either.

Don't buy it from the dealer!!

Buying a fuel filter from the dealer is like paying $8. 00 for a gallon of fuel when the place across the street charges $1. 20/gallon. Like the others said, Genos is good, and your local Cummins distributor could be even cheaper. I use Fleetguard filters from the Cummins distributor, since we get a good price for our local TDR members.

CM

I have found that prices are cheaper at truck shops.

Stealer dealer $21. 00 and up, Cummins West and truck shop in the $15. 00 to $17. 00 range.

Worse yet, ask the stealer what it costs to change the fuel filter.

40 for filter

40 for labor (one hour minimum)

80 bucks!

I get mine from Genos, and i change it every 10k miles. I know thats really early, but for the 5 minutes it takes to do it, i like the piece of mind. I also keep 2 spares on board in case i ever get a bad load of fuel while travelling.

I paid the premium for mine at the Dodge shop. Time and mileage sneaked up on me. I thought about the price I paid for my truck compared to that $43 filter. It sounded pretty cheap then. I'll likey order from Geno's next time but if time slips up on me again, I'll pay the $43 again before I'd cheap out on a $32,000 truck to save $15. I also buy Premium diesel from Shell or Texaco. If I can afford a $32,000 truck, I can afford to put the good stuff in it. There is a difference in Cetane and the additives package in it. Just my ever so humble opinion. ;)

SteveM... . nothing wrong the the $43 dollar filter Dodge uses. It is the same $12 Fleetguard filter that any Cummins dealer, Fleetguard distributor and Genos can sell you. EXACTLY the same filter.

Now when it comes to the oil filter, you will not get the Premium Stratapore filter from any Dodge dealer. You will have to pay less for that filter from any of the above mentions places.

I can total understand have a dealer to the work (warrent work with warrenty parts). If you have a repitable service shop maybe even your dodge dealer,,,,,have then do the service with YOUR parts. Labor rate should be the same, just save some coin on the same OR even better premium filters.

Dodge buys the engines and all the parts from Cummins and/or its distributors. Dodge is one of several companies that use this engine. They have nothing exclusive when it comes to parts other then getting their markup for selling someone elses parts.

BTW... I always use Premium Fuel also... . over 14,000 gallons so far in this truck.
