I am fixing to BOMB my fuel system a bit but I need help with a couple things.

I am installing the Carter 100gph 15psi pump back at the tank and running -8AN line up to the filter canister. I will only run the one pump (no pump at the engine). I have a 2001 with the filter canister that has the large screw-on lid. Question: What is the best way to connect my -8AN line to my filter canister port, which is 12x1. 5mm? I am contemplating drilling and tapping the canister for a larger inlet port but not sure what thread or size to go with. I want to do straight vs. tapered NPT with gasket since I think you have a shallow depth to work with.

I looked all the way through my fat Aeroquip catalog but I already knew they don't have any 12x1. 5mm to -8AN adapters. I remember when this topic came up before it seems someone found this adapter from Parker or Earls or else had them custom made. Unfortunately the search engine on this forum doesn't work worth beans so I cannot find the thread (at LEAST 1 year ago).

Now my 2nd question: What type of fitting is on the back of the Autometer oil pressure & boost gauge? Is it 1/16" NPT? It looks like straight (not tapered) thread. Are there any adapters to jump from that thread to -4AN? I am wanting to use my mechanical fuel pressure gauge in-cab which has the male -4AN but connect it to the small nylon tube like that on an oil pressure gauge. If that is possible. There is no way I'd have room for a 1/4" line to my dash pod.

Thanks for the help.

Vaughn, I ran into the same dilemma when I upgraded the lines as I wanted to use -8AN as well. I ended up using the -6AN Weber fittings and using a reducer at the inlet to the fuel filter, to adapt from -8AN to -6AN. I don't know how much fuel you plan on needing, but with the -6AN Weber fittings I have more than enough, even with the TST set on KILL (see my sig. line below). My FP never drops below 5 psi's post filter, no matter what I do.

If you are set on using the -8AN Weber's, I believe that fellow member Rubberneck was working on a fix, not sure if he's there yet. Hope this helps !!!

Short memory, Vaughn!:D:D

Search on 'goodridge'

"OR if you guys don't mind Aluminum fittings and paying $14. 38 apiece, you can get the -8 to 12x1. 5mm Goodridge 5074 adapters from

Vaughn, earls does make #8 to 12mmx1. 5 thread,I have 4 of them-part #9919EFG as to the gauge I'm not sure with out looking but I think autometer has a line adapter for it.

John

TT, fifteen bucks is a fair price for those fittings. I made the AN part and Rubberneck's dad did the metric part and they take awhile to do in small quanties. Since the market is small for that part the cost is fair.

TommyT-saurus, yeah yeah yeah, thanks for the help~! LOL This kind of help reminds me of how that $35 membership has paid off many times over

Seriously though thanks for the reminder :) .

Bigsaint, my thinking was running large line all the way to the filter and minimizing restriction to that point should help maintain pressure with my setup (DD2s and CPC). I know you are more BOMBed than I am so this helps reaffirm this.

Brandon & Floor It, thanks for the info too. Brandon are you still making those SS fuel lines??

Vaughn

Good info sent by all !!! I had no idea that they actually made the -8AN Webers, I thought they were custom built only  .

Vaughn, I think you will soon see the next major restriction is the OEM fuel filter. Not that it's a big deal, but I see about a 5 psi initial lose going from pre to post filter psi's at WOT, for several seconds. Under sustained WOT, the post psi's climb back to about 3-4 less than pre-filter. This is with a new filter in the OEM housing. Normal cruising I see a 1 psi drop from pre to post.

Regardless, you will have more than enough flow with your set up. I'd swap out those banjos from the filter outlet and the inlet to the VP44 as well. You may not need it at this point, but it sure won't hurt anything except your budget.

Scott W.

Ray T Banjos

Bigsaint, I also found a 1/4" NPT fitting for -8 hose and I am thinking of drilling out the inlet side, although I may eventually replace the stock filter in favor of a Racor unit.

I already replaced my banjos between the filter canister and VP44 with Ray T's banjos, so I am already set there. Currently going into the filter housing I have a -6AN fitting a hose since I have the stock pump back at the tank. It is slowly dying.

I've had a Racor filter on for 10 months now--and I also have possibly the only custom made aluminum 12mmx1. 5/-08an fitting sitting here waiting to be installed--thanks to J. Whitcomb and Rubberneck---the Racor is nice and has either 3/8" or 1/2" NPT(don't remember which-I'll have to check it out)----Brandon can get them if you have trouble--they also come with the WIF and heater attachments---it's a very nice unit----chris

Sounds like you are set, Vaughn. Next step will be to add set of showerheads, you know, just to check your flow ;)

The Racor would be my choice as well, if I decide to upgrade.

Scott W.

csutton, what Racor model did you get and about how $$$??? If they didn't cost a fortune I may just skip the stock unit altogether at upgrade time and do the Racor instead. I haven't done any shopping around yet. 3/8" NPT should be plenty on the inlet. Does it have any ports for a fuel pressure sender?

Vaughn

racor $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ dont know for sure though

got a local guy at racor that can help us locate what we need

s/s fuel line yes I will do them but too many variables now everyone wants something different and it takes lotsa time

I think the model 490 (with primer) or 690 (without primer) are the best models, they are the 90gph version. I saw $139 but that is probably without the heater and WIF sensor option. I think I'll stick with the stocker for now.

Vaughn

I'll have to check the #--but 490 sounds right--it has the primer---no port for FP sender, I bought a Aeroquip or Earls port fitting and screwed it into the outlet on the filter--it was more expensive than $139, but I have the WIF and heater... . chris
