Can someone help me. My fuel gage will go from half to empty and then sometimes back to half. Could it be the sending unit or something simple.

fuel guage

Just had mine in for the infamous fuel guage issue. It would read zero on anything less than a 1/2 tank. BBC dodge here in seattle at first said wasn't covered. I got a bit more insistant and and the service mgr said I would need to pay the $100 deductible. I agreed but made it clear I was not happy about it. They called back 2 days after the work and said it was covered under the emissions warranty. I was credited back the $100. Also had them change the axle and transmission fluids and install a transmission filter from Geno's. I specifically said NOT to change the engine oil which they did anyway. Bummer since I had just done the oil the week before. I wasn't charged for the oil change but... All in all a fair experience, after I cleaned the grease off the top of the console and took out the shop rags. Guess next time I will leave a note in the truck as well as on the work order. Their billing was a bit confusing as the tech had materials scattered all over the work order. Made it pretty hard to figure out.

Emissions warranty?

sgarman:

They covered this under the emissions warranty? My 95's fuel gauge just quit on me after 92k miles. I'd love to know for sure that DC will cover this before I bring it (and my checkbook) in!! Any additional info much appreciated. dp

Same problem twice

I've been running around on emty all week. If its warranty I'll have fixed. I too am tired of greasy hand prints all over inside and outside of truck at dealer.

This is second time for fuel gauge problem. 66000 now, first time at less than 1000. Was sending unit(or so they said).

I'm not sure what the problem with mine is. When I first bought the truck(used) the car lot said they had replaced the fuel sending unit, but it still showed full. After driving it for a year and using the trip meter,I decided that I would check the connections on the tank to see if it was loose. When I unplugged the connection and plugged it back in, the guage now moves. But it only starts to move off of full when I have about 500 miles on the trip meter. At 3/4 of a tank I know that I have about 10 gal. left in the tank. I have tested this a number of times and its always right as far as the amount of fuel that I have in the tank whether I am towing or running empty.

It maybe that the dip stick that changed the sender didn't know what he was doing... .

I need to drop the tank and check it to see and correct the problem. .

fuel gauge

pipe 1,

The service adviser called me and said it would be covered under the emissions warranty. I took delivery of my rig in California. I don't know if the emissions warranty is different for a CA vehicle. I do know that emmissions standards are different for CA vs. the other 49 states. Check the warranty book or you could call a dealer and they could provide a copy. Their isn't a whole lot more in terms of details that I know of. I will check the booklet and post what I find.

43k, I am not sure about the limits on the warranty. The book is at the house. I will post what I find later today.

okay, here is how I read the "great book of warranty".

"Chrysler must warrant the emission control system on your truck for the periods listed below provided there has been no abuse neglect or improper maintenance on your truck. Uour emmission control system may include parts such as the fuel injection system and engine ECM. Also include may be hoses, connectors and other emission related assemblies. "

5 years or 100,000 miles for short term warranty.

short term emission related parts:

" A warranted part is any part which can affect emissions"

7 years or 70,000 miles for long term warranty

" Long term emission related parts:

Catalyst, Cylinder head, EGR control module, Fuel pump

Turbocharger. "

It appears that the California warranty covered the tank sender replacement as it is part of the fuel system. I would say that I'm covered until 2003. 5 as I read this.

Hope this helps.
