Fuel Gauge and Boost Gauge Installation Question

I just installed a dipricol mechanical fuel gauge that attaches to the bottom of the fuel filter housing, in fear of getting sealant to my cp3 I didn't use Permatex on the fitting that screws into the replacement banjo bolt, I had to use Permatex Red on the fitting between the hose and isolator because of a leak, it fixed the leak and now everything is fine, two questions:

1. Is the red permatex RTV gasket sealant OK for that fitting?

2. Am I more likely to develop a leak on the fitting where I didn't use any RTV sealant? Thanks, Jay

Also, where can I get the best boost bolt? I have read horror stories about them breaking off even when correctly torqued, I got one with my boost gauge from geno's but it isn't brass, should I get a brass one?

I also have a leak either at the fitting that screws into the banjo bolt or just above that were the hose screws into the fitting. I am interested to see what others have done to fix it.

I used the boost bolt that Geno's sent and I have not had any problems with it.

The banjo bolt fitting is 1/8th NPT pipe and should self seal as you tighten it, you can use teflon tape if you want as a back up.

Is the fitting NPT or NPTF? Only NPTF are self-sealing.

I am not talking about the banjo bolt, I am talking about the threads on the hose that screws into the banjo bolt. It's NPTF I think, I am talking about the threads on the two ends of the hose that goes from the fuel filter housing to the isolator. Well today I noticed I still had a leak and the RTV was being solubilized by the fuel because the leaking fuel was RED!! So I tried to get the hose off to clean the RTV off and reinstall with the Permatex #2 spoke about in TDR but I had the D*(& thing too tight and I rounded off the shoulders. I will have to get another one Monday. How liberal are you all with the Permatex 2 on the threads, and how much do you worry about getting some of the stuff exposed to the fuel stream, the cp3 wouldn't like it I am sure. Thanks, Jay

I have installed two of these gauges and used teflon tape on both, and no leaks. I am just careful to not overlap it on the hole, and keep it on the threads only. No problems and one of them has been on there for 3 years.

I haven't installed mine yet but I found a teflon type tape that is specifically for fuel (propane, kerosene, etc. ) applications at Home Depot.
