Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Fuel gauge issues

I am having some issues with my fuel gauge on my truck and wanted to see what your thoughts were. It is the 1997 in my signature block and the fuel gauge is really sensitive to the point it will move 1/4 of a tank when you brake or accelerate. The gauge drops like a rock after about 3/4 of a tank and I know I should have way more fuel than it says. It will drop to "E" and hover just above when I have around 130 miles on the tank. Is the sending unit going bad or what? I have only put 180 miles on a tank and refilled as I don't want to run out of fuel, even though I shouldn't until around 350-400 miles on the low end. I have checked the mileage and it is getting around 15 mpg when I am not pulling anything, seems a little low... . anyway, any thoughts.

Sure sounds like the sending unit to me.



I've already had to replace the one in my truck once and I now keep a spare on hand for when this one quits.
