Cummins Closing Emissions Plant in WI

Checked with the fuel depot where I fuel up to see what they do for winter fuel. They said they use a 80/20 mixture of diesel plus additives. They test it daily and it is currently good for -36. Alot of school buses and trucks fill up here so the fuel is always fresh. They have had 3 customers call about fuel gelling and investigated each complaint. What they found was the fuel was not gelled but there was icing because of moisture. There was no moisture at their tanks. It had formed in each cutomers tank. So the message here is to keep as full of a tank of fuel as you can and drain a few ounces every now and then out of your seperater... .

Yesterday morning,(0*)I forgot to plug in my 98 12V, and after sitting outside all night, it was hard to start. I cranked it for about 10-15 sec. It started(2 cyl?), then died.

Then I cranked it for about 30 sec. and gradually more and more cyl. started firing, and it kept running, but very rough and smokey.

As soon as I could, I put it in drive, with my foot on the brake, and held it at about 12-1300rpm.

In about 3-4 min. , it all cleared up, and ran great the rest of the day.

Ray sounds like your grid heater isn't working, do you see your voltage drop on the meter when you start? The grids are not connected on my '96 but it started up at 0 degrees much the same as you describe (didn't plug it in). . . only hit on a couple cylinders then the others kicked in. Died a couple times, lots of smoke.
