I have a 07 3500 srw with 123,000miles on it. The motor is a 5. 9. I run completely stock, and I work this truck pretty hard. . lots of mid weight towing(10,000 lbs) not on the highway. I lost my head gasket/injector harness at 75,000 miles, my #1 injector failed at 110,000 miles, and now my number 4 injector has failed. It looks like I will slowly be replacing the remaining four. My question is: I have been replacing the injectors with mopar injectors. They are costing me $700 a pc for the part and then a few hundred to put them in. Does anyone have a good source for reliable injectors that are not $700/pc. I have been told to be careful of the after market stuff due to quality issues. Every time I get on line searching for after market injectors I am overwhelmed by the many companies selling them. Any other thoughts would also be appreciated.

The latest TDR mag, (just got mine yesterday) recommends, again, Dynomite Diesel Performance. They have a good reputation that seems to be growing in the right direction. Of course they are not the only game in town but perhaps a good starting point. Several other advertisers in TDR, or do a search of this same forum. Perhaps your location is a factor? HTH

Go to tc diesel .com i just bought 6 new bosch injectors from Todd @ 350. 00 each. nice guy to work with and very helpful!

Thanks much for the info. Does anyone have an opinion on the 2 micron filter. Some of the online info states that these injectors are failing due to lack of proper filtration. . the dodge factory 10 mic is not enough.

You can buy new Bosch injectors with stock tips for $320-350 in most places. It will cost more for custom tips. TCDiesel, DDP, Industrial Injection, etc all have the stock injectos.

Add the 2 mic filter setup between the filter housing and the CP-3 to help save the injectors. FYI, the new Flettguard filte ris 7 mic but it really need less than 3 to meet Bosch specs.

I have a question. I have a set of used but good injectors out of an 03 am wondering if I can use them in a05? will they work? if not,why not? thank you

Bodies yes, tips no. The difference in tips for the fueling curves will cause problems with fueling.

Bodies are the same from 03-07. 5.

thanks cerberusiam,
The injectors in the truck from the factory are Bosch injectors... correct? If so am I correct in saying that the motor was built with fuel delivery not to the Bosch standards?

Yes, they come from the factory with Bosch injectors.

Its not the fuel delivery thats the problem, its the fuel. Bosch developed the system to run on Euro diesel which is much cleaner and higher cetane than what we have in the US. Bosch never really published a spec that absolutely says thou shall filter to x micron or your warranty is invalid. That would be to easy and leave lots open legal questions. ;)

Since Dodge buys the engines from Cummins without warranty and Cummins sources the injection systems from Bosch essentially without warranty there really is no legal way to enforce any kid of warranty over specifications becuase they never been published or officially recognized.

There are several studies posted on the Internet and in automotive publications about the effect of solids on the HPCR system. The detemrination was 3 microns or less solids are needed to provide adequate filtration to keep the system functional and in good shape for a normal life time expectancy. About all we can go by at this time are the independent studies because the manufacturers willl not publish and conform to a recognized spec.

Just anothe one of the automotive world's dirty little secrets. :-laf

what length of time or mileage are the studies referring to for a normal length of time? As is often the case we have a good product that was possibly value engineered. thanks

Miles and hours don't really compute becuase of other variables. There are wear and clearance specs published for the CP-3 and injectors and about all the studies could do was attempt to extrapolate a time frame from the observed wear when different levels of solids were introduced. The general consensus was that above 3 microns the wear accelerated much faster with more scoring than 3 microns or less. There were some general hours attached to an estimate but its been a while and don't remember what they were.

As for value engineered, definitely. Pretty sure Cummins and Dodge figured out the cost difference between levels of filtration merged with warranty times and came up with a filter that would get it out of warranty before the excessive solids caused too many problems. Thats a prety normal ROI calculation for ALL manufacturers. After all, if they built them to last too long they could not stay in business. :-laf

Water is By far the most Damaging,This Aftermarket filtering system DID NOT STOP this water form the injection system.

How effective is the stock fuel filter/water trap? Is it true that the original 10mu filter is a better 'water separator' than the new 7mu filters?
