I have a '96 2500 with a fuel leak. I believe it is coming from the primer pump since when I prime it a bring it back up to pressure I can feel the rubber boot that goes over the primer button start to slide around and it is very slippery. Is there any way to fix it or is it necessary to purchase a new pump. I am sure that an O-Ring has fallen apart or something inside. Also when it it running and the fuel line is up to pressure there is a continuous drip of fuel until the pressure in the line has dissipated, then and only then the leak stops. Also if I do need to replace the primer pump is it something that can be done on my own or do I need to put it in a shop. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am in Western Washington in the Lake Stevens area.

Mine has a loose feel to it as well but it does not leak. Have you replaced the rubber lines on the rear of the engine yet?

There is an O-ring around the push button that is a problem. Take the old one to NAPA get the closest match from their O-ring box. It's about 50 cents or so.

It would be a good idea to email me at -- email address removed -- for a copy of my 12 valve fuel supply system write up, how it works and how to fix it.

As mentioned above, if you haven't replaced your rubber fuel return lines, i'd be a good idea to check them and possibly replace them.

Western Washington eh! Check out Northwest Bombers . Good bunch of people there too.

pull your starter to get a good look at your pump . I think the plunger in the primer pump screws in . Validate this . pull the plunger and replace the o ring.
