Fuel Leak under Injection pump

Here we go! Truck has 9000 miles on it. Found an extremely small dot of fluid under my truck one morning. I kept an eye on it and it didn't look bad. The fluid, which turns out to be diesel fuel, was dripping down a harness thats routed under the injection pump. I can't see all the way around the pump but the harness is dry above the pump and halfway down the pump. The leak produces 1 drop every couple of minutes when the engine is running at 1500 RPM. Has anyone had any experience with this kind of thing.

Also,this may have been a mistake but, I noticed the fluid before installing my Edge Juice w/attitude but just thought it was residual connector lube melting off. I had to pull the Edge back out for dealer prep. I put a fine thread bolt with some high temp sealant in the manifold hole as a plug. I know for a fact the leak wasn't a result of the edge since it was leaking before. Is there anything I need to be prepared for when dealing with the dealer on this issue. The dealer I'm taking the truck to sells the Edge with Attitude and installs them so I think I'm pretty safe but just wanted to make sure. Any suggestions?

????? plug for what? pyro probe? i hope you didn't damage the threads in the manifold as the pyro probes use a pipe thread. a standard pipe plug would have worked

yeah i hope I didn't damage it either. It went in smooth so I think I'm good but I'll remember that.

Actually the CP3 pump leaking is not that unusual. I had mine replaced at around 10K and I know of some others as well. I would just take it back to the dealer. I doubt you'll have any issues.

Welp, my injection pump seems to be the culpret. They're going to replace it. I hope this is the only one that ever needs to be replaced.

We Had A Couple Of Trucks We Put 3 Pumps On And Were Still Leaking. We Had A Cummins And Bosch Rep Come And Look At These Trucks And We Did More Testing On Them And Added Dye To Fuel. It Was The Pumps Leaking. They Gave Us Revised Pumps To Put On. The Revision Was To Move The Weep Hole On The Cp3 Pump. These Pumps Entered Production Early In 2oo5. We Did This 3 Months Ago On A 2003 And 2004 Truck And Have Not Leaked Since.

Is there a TSB on the revised pump ?

I noticed my injection fuel pump was leaking and had it replaced in March 2005. The new one is now leaking. I would like to make sure I receive the revised pump.

how long ago did these revised pumps go on? Better yet how many miles? This is great info I can take to the Dodge dealership, for their service department that tells me nothing is wrong! Did the reps from Cummins and Bosch tell you why it was leaking?? Better yet, are all the pumps revised, don't want an old POS sitting in Dodge's parts wharehouse? Thanks for the info

Exactly the sympton I just noticed on my truck today. 18,200 miles. Just dropped it at the dealer.



I'm guessing a new pump?

What does replacing this involve? Seems like they would have to take the engine apart to get to it?

Scott. . Actually its not a big deal. Theres a cover for the CP3 pump gear that they just screw off the timing case cover. They pull the gear and theres a few bolts behind the pump they need to undo. Not that bad a job.

No TSB for. Bosch and Cummins reps told me new pumps went into 2006 production in June and are in stock in the parts system.

I didn't have any problems after my pump was replaced. The mechanic that did the work left my fan connector disconnected and it threw a bunch of code so check the work over real good before you leave the dealer with it.

Smelled raw fuel when I got home last night. Found diesel on top of the pump in the little indentions at the front of the pump. Just damp. I called the dealer and he told me he had one in the shop having the pump replaced because of a leak. He told me to bring it by tomorrow and they'll check it. He said it is taking four days to get them in. He said he can't order it until he sees mine. Fair enough. I guess Bosch made a bad batch.

Just talked to my dealer.



"Could not duplicate". He says "breather hose, normal condition".



I said (nicely) it's NOT the breather hose. I asked to to go start the truck, and let it run, and he will be able to clearly see it leaking on the wiring harness under the CP3 pump. He said he'd call me back. If he cant' duplicate it, I guess I'm going to have to wait until it spews all over everywhere.



What IS it with dealers anymore?



When I picked up the truck tonight, there was already a spot under it. I got under the truck with my flashlight at home, and there is diesel covering the wiring harness. A BLIND man could see it!



If I get out of work early tomorrow, I'm going to drive back over there, and get him UNDER the truck, and stick his nose right in it. :-{}

Update:



Finally had this repair a month later (took two weeks to get parts in):



Dealer replaced the CP3, apparently I also had a leak at the cylinder head, for which they replaced the fuel injector connector tube and O-ring, also under warranty.



He cleaned up the engine compartment nicely. Gotta admit, looks like he did a good job. I'll know in the morning when I leave for work if there are any new leaks.
