How vulnerable is this opening to DUST getting into it?

I can tell you spending the whole winter in Desert Hot springs where we get massive wind sand storms my fill hole stayed clean. I was very surprised. I did buy the plastic EGO Diesel fuel cap with tether off Amazon to be safe.

What, pray tell, is the object to all this over-engineered crap in the filler neck now? What was wrong with the old way? Since fuel caps are everywhere now, why couldn't one just gut the neck and go back to the old fashion way?

The gas vehicles use capless fuel fill to eliminate one more leak path (the customer) that sets a check engine light. Could be one little peek into the future???

Sounds simple, but since the DEF fill is packed in there also, probably not enough real estate to add a conventional fill neck without more modifications.

There is a vent at the top of the tank,it has a hose attatcthed that goes up to the fuel fill tube held in place with ty wraps. That is where the fuel comes out at the top off

I would think/hope both ends of a vent hose would be sealed to the fittings?

My idea of what was happening was shattered today,by my service manager. The fuel gets trapped between the two doors,at this point when you start driving the fuel trapped comes out between the two doors and out the drain hole located between the two doors.Per FCA instructions."After the nozzel shuts off you are to allow a minium of 5 seconds with the nozzel fully extend pass the second door, to allow any additional fuel that comes out the nozzel to drain pass the second door, this ensures that any fuel will not be trapped between the two doors".Also per FCA does not what any topping off to be done with this type of system, and that there is no advantage to topping off.My picture taken at my dealership was sent to T.A.C,this was there reply. So no problem case was closed and life goes on.It is a good thing I do not design rocketships.Man my idea was well pass Mars. But I am sure my dealership has heard it all.He just smile and drive it like you own it.Sorry all for the post, hope I did not warrant any sleepless nights.

There is just a filter at the top of the vent, another suggestion is to not remove the nozzle for a few seconds to allow the foaming diesel to drop back down the tube.

After mine clicks off I SLOWLY fill mine until I see a drip hit the ground then stop. That way I know the tank is full and I have as much fuel in the TOO SMALL tank as possible. I also know my exact mileage every time.

I wish I had this much control over those crazy fuel pumps.

I have a couple C&C so have the ~52 gallon rear tank (no spare tire mount on truck) and when I fuel up, I set the pump handle to the slowest setting to reduce the fuel foaming and after the first auto click off of the pump I generally without fail can pump in another ~10 gallons as the foam subsides. That foaming fuel sucks and why I top off if I have the time. An "additional" 10 gallons is a huge difference on a DTE. #@$%!

My experience is that pumping slow will create more foam.

I agree that the fuel tank is small for a truck that hauls or works. When I bought my 2015 the sales guy was bragging about the 32 gallon tank. He finally shut up when I told him that my 20 year old truck had a 35 gallon tank. I ended up putting an aux tank in the bed.

Don't worry nothing gets past the door...........
