The truck in my sig, 93 W250 CC 5 sp 3. 54, fuel screw is in and whatever else, whenever I touch the pedal it blows a cloud. Anyways I got 18, 75% high speed highway(75+) and 25% driving around town, etc. I think it did pretty good, haven't even checked the air filter or changed the oil or fuel filters yet. My 91. 5 D250 5 sp 3. 54 used to get just slightly better, that was a much lighter truck w/ 80K less miles. I figure w/ a 4" exhaust, some kind of air filter, larger diameter tires(to lower cruising speed) and some pump tweaks so I'm not blowing black smoke whenever I accelerate it should get 20+. I don't exactly baby it either... What do you guys think?

I dunno, I get 17-18 mixed, and 19-21 on the highway. I doubt you'll see much improvement, but you never know. Give it a shot and let us know.

You fall through the floor yet:-laf ;) ?

The 4x4's I have jammed under the seat are holding up OK, always sitting on an angle though. Hopefully I'll have time for a cabswap soon

Update

Well, on the next tank of fuel I cleaned the k&n, changed the oil and fuel filters and got 20, on this last tank I played w/ the smoke screw and starwheel(backed them off so I wasn't blowing huge clouds while accelerating normally) and trashed the k&n for a fleetgard BHAF, no shroud yet. 21. 45 mpg. I go to the same pump all the time and fill it until it stops, so these figures should be fairly accurate. My driving varies from bumper to bumper traffic(Eisenhower and Dan Ryan for those of you familiar w/ Chicago) to around town to highway. My fuel screw is still turned in pretty far, still smokes pretty good and gets up and goes when I step on it. My tailpipe just fell off the other day, about 50 miles ago, but the muffler is still on. My 4" is on the way, let's see what that w/ a straight pipe does.

My ol' 93 W250 CC always got at least 20 MPG empty, no matter how hard or how fast I drove it, and yes it would smoke on demand too !!!

milage

I get 19 to 22 1/2 mpg with about 75% hwy and 25% city consistently, thats with running my a/c about 80% of the time. unclemarc :)

around 22-23 and best was 25 mpg straight shot 600 miles with 24 gallons from here on a trip to washington at 65 avg. but I have hiway gearing, 3. 07's and getrage

I am getting about 16 running 70 mph on the highway with 4. 11 gears. My truck is mostly stock other than the K & N filter, 3" straight pipe and rebuilt 16cm turbo.

Why Not

Why Not

Swinging the big tires, turned up pump, and 4. 11 gearing doesn't help the mileage.

I had a first gen that was a '91 way back when. It was 2 WD and never got less than 18 MPG, 20 average, and a high of 22 MPG doing 62 MPH on the highway. This was back when the speed limit was 55.

the keys to good mileage from what I understand on these vehicles are as follows, some may be greater gains than others but all add up to good efficiency.

1: weight or lack thereof: 2wd, std cab, emby bed, no trailer etc etc...

2: drag: 2wd lower to ground, hiway tires (toyo h/t/ michelin rib) not mudders

3: straight gearing with OD and lower cruising rpm

4: afc adjusted for minimal smoke

5: high flow intake and exhaust

just a listing off the top of my head real quick, but I believe that the combo of straight gearing and lowered rpm on the hiway gave me the biggest jump in mileage from 17 to 23. I used to be at almost 8 psi boost egt 750-800 at 2500 rpm or so at 75. now I'm at 3 psi boost 600 egt at 75 lower rpm not exactly sure

That is one of the things I most recently discovered... . when I keep the boost below 5 psi I get just a tad over 17 mpg, if I run above that say 7 - 8 psi I average about 14. 5 mpg! See my sig for other mods/details...
