We took the fuel delivery rate pin out of the pump in a friends truck for a little wile and that thing got pretty fast with no problems. Then it had fuel spraying out the back of the afc housing from a little fitting. I put in the fuel rate pin back in the AFC housing and the truck had no more leeking problems. Is there a point were that little pin down the AFC that rides the cone on the fuel delivery pin comes out to far and starts to spray fuel? The truck has about 230,000 miles on so could it be a worn seal?

Yes it do. We have all experimented with the removal of unnessessary pump parts. That ain't one of 'em.

If you want the same effect and more; pull the pump top and remove the lever that controls the AFC portion of said pump. However, you'll have to contend with lots more fuel and smoke. Tons more. Trust me when I tell you. Maybe it would be better to start out slow like and simply grind the foot portion of said lever off. Or make yourself a custom cut fuel control cone for starters.

would this eleminate the need to purchase the $200 fuel pin from bully dog? If so please tell me how to do this. Would I loose fuel economy?

A diesel is a precise machine and will use fuel based on how much horspeower is used, not how much horsepower is available... .

That means your right foot controls fuel economy... . it also controls "smileage" :D which means once you start tweaking thiings and making custom pins and such your right foot will be acting awfully heavy more often than not. :D

Jay is right - The weight of the right foot is directly proportional to the amount of "tweaks" and bombs that are done to the truck. The more you do, the heavier the foot and then the more bombs you want to do and so on and so on, etc.

Boy, you guys got that right! Since I turned in the fuel screw, my mileage went from 19 (actual) to 9 (estimated so far). I can't keep my foot put of it, luv the rush! :D :D

Hopefully I'm not gonna "overshoot the runway" here but... . and this is just my thought on fuel pins/tweaks/mods etc... .

I'd probably modify the AFC cone first... then go on from there. My logic is this, if you modify the internal "foot" on the lever you have a pretty much permanent mod that can't be undone without completely replacing that lever... and the smoke that goes with it...

I'd rather do the cone and work up from there. You can find a truckload of info/how to/pictures on the cone and the method of modifying it right here in the 1st gen forum and the picture galleries of various members.

There is some seriously awesome stuff done by the guys, one fellow, formula, did a detailed set of test on cone travel up/down, pin dimensions and more.

All you need to do is take a look thru the sticky posts and use the search function a bit.

If you can't find something specific I'm positive you'll have a half dozen guys jump in with links/pics and more for you. .

BTW, don't forget to use or start using some additive for your fuel. This helps reduce some of the wear and tear on the pump as we tweak them up by providing lubrication.

No one answered this yet...

Yes if you grind your own pin you will save $200

That'll get you halfway to a new set of injectors... or other bomb of your choice!!!:D :D
