Does anyone make a electric sender & gauge to check fuel pressure of lift pump? If so do they work decent? Thanks! My truck is 2001 3500

I think I am looking at one in Geno's catolog.

Autometer. Yes it works good, but you will need to run a 1/8" needle valve (you can get these from Grainger) and a 24"grease gun hose on the sender to keep from blowing it out upon startup, to isolate it from vibration, and to keep the guage's indicator needle from jumping around all over the place. ;)

I use a Westach from Geno's, very happy with it .

P. S. If you don't have a trans temp gauge already and you tow at all I suggest getting one maybe even before the FP guage.

I have two Westach gauges from Geno's. Very accurate and I believe they just saved my Butt. I must have gotten trash in my last tank full. After a few miles my 2nd gauge (after filter) showed a 5 lb difference (lower) in pressure. I thaough I had a sending unit problem but the more miles I drove the less pressure I had. It took 2 filter changes to use up the tank. If I did not have a pressure gauge after the filter I might have ended up with another new lift pump or injector pump. :D

FO pressure gauge

I use a Dakota digital in the cubby hole and as others a needle valve and a section of aeroquip hose from the inlet of the VP44 using a special banjo, my sensor is mounted on the dipstick bracket so as to allow the sensor to move with the engine and no absorb the vibration as if mounted to the fender well. The rubber hose from grease gun or aeroquip will dampen most if not all of the vibration. The Dakota digital also has a low pressure setting that can be adjusted by user, the gauge reading will flash at the low setting, nice a option. Which ever you get. . it is a need gauge with these pusher pump failures that can save you some serious money from replacing a VP44.

I use Autometer Electric on a steering column mount. Got both from Summit. It was relatively cheap compared to my pillar mounted Isspros's. A lot easier install than a mechanical.

No needle valve, etc. Just installed what came with it.

Yes it bounces a little (+/- 1/2 psi), but not much when giving it gas (diesel).

IMHO, this gauge is for getting trends on the life of my LP. If it comes up to 14+ on start up, stays above 10 at cruise and is above 8 psi at heavy throttle, I don't need an exact reading every second.

Until these numbers start changing, I'm ok.

Good Luck!

To ensure that no brand is left out...

Mine's a DiPricol. I like it. I mounted the sender on the engine and plumbed it with a 12" piece of grease gun hose. The gauge itself is on my A-pillar with the EGT and boost.

I've ran the Dakota Digital for several months now. I've got it mounted in a steering column pod by Autometer.

The DD uses a VDO sending unit. It takes 8 (or so) readings/inputs per second then averages them for the reading. I guess its fairly accurate.

I like it but have several concerns. It operates very hot. DD says this is normal. But the gauge face/bezel gets so hot you cannot touch it for very long before you can't stand it. This bothers me because there is no ventillation inside the pod. So I hope the long tem heat dont hurt the gauge. DD says it wont.

The digital display is kind of annoying at night right in your face. Its bright but easy to read without question. No guessing where the needle is.

Finally, there is a light at the bottom of the gauge face that illuminates the tag telling what the gauge is for. Mine says fuel press. The tag came loose inside and didn't line up well. Now the light is out so you cant see the tag at all.

DD said ship it back and they'll fix it... but thats a hassle and I think I'll be looking for something less "bright" and "hot". Kinda P's me off since it cost $100.

Isspro gauges here... used mechanical gauge and connected at fuel filter housing (use isolation valve). I installed 20K+ miles ago, haven't experienced any leaks, and needle is rock steady (just wished the lift pump was).

Think I got them through Wildcat Diesel (Rod)(?). Has everything to make installation possible.

Good luck on your quest as there are many good gauges/combinations to choose from.
