Ok I have a 99... i installed a full set of gauges in mine not to long ago... well the GF is gettin a 2000 3500 6 speed, 4. 10's laramie slt, slt plus... this thing has everything... i'm kinda jealous. . anyways... . i was lookin at the the top of the fuel filter housing and there is no plugs to tap a mech. gauge into it... . but there is a schrader valve at the back... is this what I have to use to hook up a gauge?? and is there some kind of adapter to do this with?? Thanks for any info... . Russ

You can use either that Schrader valve or better yet would be the one directly on the VP44. Geno's has an 18" hose with fittings that screws right on to the valve with an 1/8" npt on the other end.

Where is the port on the vp44... is it a schrader valve or a 1/8th in plug somewhere? Thanks for the input... . Russ

The Schrader valve on the VP44 is right on the factory banjo bolt. The Geno's hose has a fitting on one end that goes on the Schrader valve. The other end has the 1/8 npt hole the sending unit or pressure line screws into.

I am also in the same stage of guage installation and wondered about the location for pressure pickup. Is it best to monitor fuel pressure before or after the fuel filter? I suppose the post filter location would give you a good idea of what the VP44 actually is getting, but with a dirty or clogged filter it would show lower than actual pump output. On the other hand, pre filter would not tell you what the pressure was at the Injector pump, which is the real critical value, but would be more accurate as to the output of the lift pump, which is what seems to go out. I'm so confused! :p

Go for the pressure at the VP44. That's the critical part you are trying to protect. If the pressure starts dropping, change the filter. If that doesn't bring the pressure back, you know the lift pump is getting weak.

anyone as to be so kinds as to post up a pic as to where you tapped into the VP44 for the FP gauge? I am instaling mine tomorrow and would love to see what ya'll have.

Also, I got the FP Isolator with my gauge, and have read alot about guys using a grease gun hose for the pressure line from the VP-44 to the Isolator or needle valve that is then hooked to the gauge. Is this all I need? it looks like I am going to need an adaptor from the Iso to the hose, as it is a different thread, but how about the end to the VP?

I guess Genos has an adapter hose with one end that will go on the scrader vavle then the other end it a female 1/8" npt... When I did my 99, I used the grease gun hose. . but on them the fuel filter top has 2 places to tap into. . pre and post filter, with the hose I also used a little valve like would be used for you automatic ice machine, then just crack it and you dont have to worry about the fuel spikes... mines doin great... i also used mech f/p guage... hope that helped... .

yeah, the fuel filer is different on the 2000+ models, no longer a metal cap, mine has a plastic screw in cap. Oh well, going out to do this in a little bit, woohoo, fun, its 20* out side :(

sooooooo, I had a biatch of a time finding a local joint to make me a hose to go from the shrader valve to the Isolator. not one local parts shop could figure it out... go figure! Anyway, the grease gun deal someone posted up didnt do me anygood as I already hace a JIC fitting on the Isolator. So getting frustrated, i had a hose made at a local hydrolic joint. Worked great and lookes awesome... . but now I am wondering how good of an idea that really was. Have a few people saying that the hyrdolic hose will deteriate from the deisel fuel? what ya'll think?

Where did you go to get the hose fab'd? I need to do the same sometime soon. Bout how much $ are we talking about to get one made up? Thanks.

what kind of hose did you get was it parker . beacause if it was there hose should work fine . i am a mechanic and the heavy equpiment that i work on uses parker hyd. hose for fuel line and we havent had any prob. hope that helps . Josh

I was at my local diesel shop the other day... had them do a pressure test on the 00 the GF just got... he used the schrader valve on the vp44... had 12 at idle... he said that was fine... . then we were talking and he said all they do is use braided -4 AN line and fittings... just remove the guts from the schrader valve and the -4 fitting will go right on... so when it comes time thing I'll just do that... with a valve inline so i can isolate the fuel spikes... . thanks for all the info... Russ
