Im having a problem with fuel pressure dropping off when the truck is started. The truck has a brand new VP44, fuel bypass valve, Vulcan relo kit, draw straw.

The truck will be at 17 psi for the first 5 seconds when you start the engine, then drop to 5 psi and stay there. Sometimes it will jump up to 15-16 psi and then back down.

We have checked for air in the system between the fuel pump and fuel filter. The fuel pump is a Carter 4601HP pump we have replaced several times.

Im at a loss trying to figure this out

Some people dont want to drop $500 for a fuel pump... I do have problems with Carters, but not often enough to hate them

How do ya feel about dropping $1300. 00 on an injection pump 2 or three times?

Most VP-44 injection pumps don't die. They're murdered. If the lift pump goes, the injection pump WILL soon follow it.

Trust me, NOBODY wants to throw five hundy at a lift pump, but with the VP-44, they got us by the short and curlys.

There are a lot of threads on these 2nd gens with fuel pressure issues.

Mine can run to 16-18 psi when I cycle the lift pump, then drops to 5 or less with it running. I have changed everything in the system and still have the issue. I do have air from somewhere though.

Driving me nuts, it can't be this hard to find.

I am now thinking I will find junk fuel plugging the intank screen. Even though it is all new right now.

Fuel tank module, all the lines, two different pumps and filters all this has been changed.

Check the guage too.

did you find air in the system? Remove a hose at the filter and put it in a bucket of fuel-submerged- I have a lot of air. And good voluume of flow.

My stocker on my new 2m 2 week old truck started to go from 10. 5psi to about 7 every 15min then started doing it every 3min then constantly, I then parked it and bit the bullet and put in an Air Dog mechanical gauge shows 21. 5psi and drops to 20psi at wot. maybe too much pressure but have not had a starting problem as b4 and is working great so far and have to stick my head out the door to see if it is actually running.
