Good tire & wheel deal?

I just wote my Senator to let him know that my political contribution for the next election just went to my gas tank.

I can only wonder 'what if' what if every TDR member could take the time to let Congress know that we bought a diesel to help conserve fuel. So why are we the whipping boy for Cheveron @ a $7,000,000 profit this Quarter!

Please don`t write back to this thread, PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO WRITE YOUR CONGRESSMAN, SENATOR, and or GOVERNOR!

What we never see when per-barrel crude prices are discussed, is how much of that price is actually going to the oil producers, and how much is marked up in the name of profit to commodities traders/brokers.

Sorta like a bushel of wheat brings the grower $1. 50, and you might bake 75 loaves of bread with that single bushel at $1. 25 a loaf - it's NOT the farmer or grocer making the $$$ - it's the middlemen, many of whom wouldn't recognize a barrel of crude - or bushel of wheat - if it raised up on it's hind legs and bit them on their arse!

My girlfriend's son-in-law works for shell in Martinez, CA and where he works they produce diesel and jet fuel. A couple of weeks ago he was bragging/touting that his unit made a profit of some $900,000,000 the previous quarter... . and mid sentence I stopped him and reminded him that he was talking to somebody(that is: ME) that has to pay $100(now $110) to feed his truck and that feeding time occurs AT LEAST once a week and that he had better get a big freaking bonus this year for 40-50% profits increases that they seem to be reporting every quarter. That kinda shut him up. No way could I raise my rates(to reap the same profits as they do) the same amount every quarter that these refining companies seem to able to do with impunity.

... because we have a free market economy. The governmint does not "control" oil prices any more than it controls the price of Charmin bathroom tissue, or Tobasco sauce.

In this state oil prices are controlled by government. If you sell gas for . 07 cents a gallon less than whole sale. You get a huge fine!

Yeah - but THAT'S the *retail* (final CONSUMER) price - the "government" couldn't care less what happens to prices further up the stream... ;)

Kind of interesting to watch the news and see that the price of fuel has gone up 30% in one year and then later on that same station states that big oil is reporting profits of 38% gain over last year

Somebody tell me this is a free market #@$%! I think not, but more to the tune of price gouging #@$%!

They are just a little slicker than ENRON at hiding the internal memos.

In most free markets I have studied, there is always an alternative product to choose from. Sooooo, anybody got one  Hydrogen is dream that can only become reality if we as a country are willing to go Nuclear Power. This would drop the cost of electricity and give us an economical way to product large volumes of hydrogen. For years state government, and federal government have made it hard to develop an alternative let alone use one on a big scale. The enviromentalist have all but shut down the ability to pursue this because every move is challenged in the courts and with impact studys.

The major car manufactures have the ability to roll out hi-mileage economy cars. Anybody care wonder why they have not. They say that we were not interested in such things. Just like in the 70's when they got their clock cleaned by the Japanese Auto Industry, they are having to play catch up again. . GM says over what, a dozen cars that get over 30 mpg  Give me a break, why are they not making vechicles that get 50+. The Germans are doing it, Japan is doing it.

Once again Corporate America has missed the mark. Why is it that this country can creat wonderfull technology and then ignore it.

Somebody, anybody pleeeeeeeease answer that. Hello, Congress, State Goverments, are you guys listening or just sucking up more bribes.

I guess I am throught with my RANT :D
