Help me my 04. 5 died on the freeway at 5am Friday. :{ finally narrowed it to fuel pump. is it still under warranty @ 90k miles does the diesel's 100k power

train warrenty cover fuel pump. I got thee codes. P0148 P0628 P2509

I think it's in the tank and it's full. Can I make it external and how?

Please help

We have an 04 that was close to 100K miles when the pump died and took the injection pump with it..... the dealer took care of the whole thing under warranty... .

But they replaced the lift pump with the same part number... it wasn't until the second failure, out of warranty that we installed the lift pump in the tank... . that one been in close to 200K miles...

My lift pump went out (04. 5) recently with the same symptoms you described. I am in California. I took it to the local dealer with a copy of the CA emissions warranty that stated fuel pumps are covered to 70,000 miles, part of the long term emissions parts warranty. Covered repair, no problems. Good luck.

On edit, now I see you are over 70,000 miles. Good luck still applies.

100K for Cummins, it IS still covered if you want to go that route.

Aftermarket Air Dog sale $499 or FASS both great!

Just out of curiosity, how did it take the injection pump with it? I thought the CP3 usually didn't have that problem.

It started with low flow... and lack of lubrication... . when it acted up we were 100 miles out of town and it would idle and give us a little bit of power so we decided to drive it back... as we drove it, it would run short of fuel and that's when it gave up...

Its covered 7/100 with a $100 deductable in years 6 and 7. Yours is EXTERNAL and prone to failure. Its changed to the intank module.

The 4. 5 are on the back of the Filter.

Well I called two dealers and they both told me that it was covered, and that it was $100 deductable.

I asked if it was in the tank. they just said they put the retro fit in so I guess it was'nt in the tank. They they told me if the injector pumps goes before the 100k it would be covered but after it would be $2500 OUCH I hope it goes soon or never goes out.

glad to have my baby back. They even had to throw is a outer hub-cap since someone stole one after I dropped it off.

I had a water pump go bad at around 50k and the dealer changed mine to the tank for good measure, when they had the truck. The diesel tech told me he had seen alot with fuel pump failure so he wanted to do mine to be safe, I told my friends and they had thiers done as well all for free and under warranty.

I have 02HO so it isn't like a 03 and later. But my Injector pump went out 2 yr ago. Injector Diesel in Milton Firewater, Or. sent one to Az. for $1,200 plus core. they are in the venders in back of the TDR . I also installed a BD lift pump it is great min. 11 lbs pressure HWestfall

I just replaced my lift pump today with the Genos kit. Out of curiosity for those who have changed theirs, how long did it take you? It took me about 2 hours from opening the tool box to washing my hands.

I just replaced my lift pump with the genos replacement on my '03, it only took a half hour. I removed left tire and fender liner and it was right there to work on, piece of cake.

I just got Mighty Whitey out of the Shop on Tuesday... LP was dead, and throwing a P0628 code... I have 5 months & 5k left on my warranty... not bad timing! Definitely looking at an Air Dog though. . What PSI do they run at?? or can you adjust them?

I didn't even think about removing the wheel liner... . That would have made my job a whole lot easier!!

How would know if the fuel pump died with out a gauge?
That's easy. The truck would quit running...

Sorry, I couldn't resist being a smart *****. Seriously though, the lift pump is usually too much of a restriction to allow the engine to keep running after it has quit. A gauge is really helpful to help show you when it's about to quit, but when the pump does die completely you'll know it, gauge or not.

With the INTANK pump it doesn't stop running. Part of the retro to the intank is a computer update. Bet it throws a check engine light and for sure a code. I think one of the reasons to the intank pump was liability's. The external pump truck dies. In the fast lane or towing in the mountains etc. It stalls and you lose steering, brakes etc.
