Auxiliary Tank Fuel Gauge?

do you think an additonal fuel separator is necessary? I came back from the RMTDR meeting and the speaker said it was very important to have an additional one (to protect the fuel pump).

Your input would be greatly appreciated.

If you think you might be getting poor quality fuel, say from an above ground farm tank, you might need one. If you purchase your fuel from a busy station I would say no.

A friends Mercedes that I work on has an added on inline filter before the main filter. You could do something like this to a Ram on the rubber line by the tank. It should flow enough and would be easy to change, but if you buy clean fuel the stock filter should be fine. Install a fuel pressure gauge if you are concerned,it will tell you if you're filter is clogging and can also be used to diagnose other problems.

I get my fuel from flying j, however the seminar we went to said a little rust in the fuel pump would destroy it.

The reason I'm inquiring about it is that I thought a little insurance would help protect my investment (they said the filter system would cost $98 +f my own time to install).

I was looking for the water separator on the filter of the bus, and it doesn't have one?! Are the newer Rams like that too? My '93 has the little valve to bleed off the water but the '97 in the bus doesn't? Maybe another option from Cummins that Ford doesn't get!?

Greig, not at all. Tank is tilted slightly back from the outlet so any water goes to the other end, there is a drain there. Every time I've opened it no water has come out. Also have a Goldenrod filter/water separator on the outlet, change 2x a year. I go though 500-800 gallons per month during the growing season, keeps things rotating with a fill up every 2 weeks. I only buy #2,use additive that I put in for the cold times, was using Standine for many years, now have switched to Power Service easier to get and I like it better.

Another thing I've done is since I have a compressed air line running right to the tank area is install an air line with a pressure regulator set at 5 psi to the tank vent. There is a stop and waste ball valve to let the air in,to replace the fill nozzle to it's holder you have to close the valve which then releases the air. Before the tank was gravity flow and slow, with the air pressure I can fill a Ram from E to full in about 2 minutes, fill nozzle has auto shut off. An auto shut off nozzle won't work with gravity, fuel pumps are pricey so this was the best mod for me. Before with gravity the fill up was so slow that my tractor operators would look for something else to do while waiting and since an auto off nozzle wouldn't work we were getting overflows and scrambling operators,no more.
I wouldn't try this with gasoline, could be dangerous. My fuel delivery guy saw this and recommended it to other Ag customers, many are now using it.
