Thanks Joe and Kim for the clarification - I confused the fuel heater relay as being for the hold-in relay. Makes sense the hold-in is low-amp with that thin (18g) green wire on the solenoid plug, and the color makes more sense now too (vs that red/white for the fuel heater).
All I have is a wiring harness from the 1997 and am wiring the engine into my 1978 ford crew. The fuel heater wiring was completely fried to the bare wires (from the wreck of the 1997 donor truck perhaps?) so I didn't have that to go on. I'll check my old Ford's ignition source to ensure adding a little bit more to the mix won't overdue it and make sure it is on a low-amp fuse.
Now I know where that grey plug near all this used to go to - the heater! I may or may not rewire the fuel heater. Colorado is generally mild in the winter - but we did just have record low temps < -20!
