Just read on truckinfo.com that there is a difference in fuel tank size on the 2500 2nd gens of one gallon between the quad/ext cab long box and short box. The short box is 34g and the long box is 35g. How do they differ in apperance. My truck is an ext. long box and is has two big humps on the top before and after the sending unit. Saw a pic on the web of a 2nd gen fuel tank, it looked remarkably like my tank but was missing the hump before the sending unit. Is that the only difference in the two truck bed lenghs, the humb on the tank that would give the long box the extra gallon.

Please add your truck info to your signature so we will know what year your truck is.

I have never owned a short bed but I was thinking the fuel tank in the sb truck is smaller than you stated. Are you sure about the accuracy of that website? I had the impression that the lb models have a much larger fuel tank than sb units.

I checked all the fuel capacity specs from year 95 throught 2002 and year 95-96 have a 35 gal. tank for LB and SB. 1997 has 26 gal. tank for SB, 35 gal. tank for LB. 1998-2002 has 34 gal. tank for SB and 35 gal. tank for LB.

I just replaced the tank in my 02, which was 35 gallons (for sale cheap) I found out no matter what size you replace it with computer is programmed to that size from factory, so my new 65 gallon tank thinks its a 35, half full is really 32. 5 gallons!

I'm doing a crew cab conversion on a 96 ext. long box. All I've done so far is removed the 8ft box and installed a 6 ft box and cut the back of the cab off, only problem I'm having so far is the hump on the tank. it originaly was under the box but by bringing the cab further back its now going to be there and in the way.

This is what my tank looks like, the one on the left.

This is one similar to mine, its sitting beside what looks like a 2nd gen but can't see if its a short box or long box and no hump on the tank. Does this tank belong to 2500 ext sort box.

This is one from a 1500, 26gals. it whould be perfect for me, no hump in the way but not enough capacity.

And these are pics of my tank on my truck(notice the hump).

All I know so far is that SB and LB have the same capacity 35gal.

Anyone have any real good pics of the sending unit, tank lip and lock down ring for the sending unit? I'm pouring fuel out between mine when I fill the tank. not sure why, guessing I need to drop tank or pull bed to replace the oring between tank and sending unit?

My fuel light came yesterday . I just filled it today and fuel started pouring out of the tank around the sending unit at 27gallons. . I stopped it at that point.

Its a 1999 long bed club cab. .

Not sure yet. I swear its looks like its wet all around the o-ring/ring area. Need to see if I can get my head up in there a little more or a mirror. Now I noticed the bottom of my bed is wet also.
