The second flap is sealed. They must be dot certified or Ram would have not been able to install that style. I had a fernco pipe cap on my 14. My 15 got the billet one off of amazon.

Many of the new vehicles today are capless fuel fillers. They actually are less trouble than a cap that the customer forgets to tighten.

Bob & Sag.... I'm sure your right... but after going through a lot of rain and pulling into a station, I opened the door and low and behold the top of the first flap has a layer of water on it.... I assume as I pushed the nozzle into the tank, this water was washed down.... so I than purchased the billet cap with a nice tight fitting 0-ring.... It might be OK, but if the darn filter is water contaminated, who is the factory going to blame.... not their engineering... no, me the driver.. I think that what this whole thread is all about....

Tottally agree I don't care for them either but we don't have much choice. No one will design an aftermarket fill neck with the high cost of liability. All the aftermarket cap solutions seem to fill that void without too much liability risk

Exactly, there's one reason RAM didn't put a cap on the filler and that's because they would have had to modify the body and that's $$$$. Ford enlarged their door. They have the exact same set up as RAM except they put a cap on the fill and enlarged the door.

I only did it once, and found out the hard way. When I first filled the truck, I tried topping it off by putting the nozzle just past the first flap, well all it did was run out on the ground. I assume there was a vent hole or whatever between the flaps. didn't come out the top, but it sure was running from somewhere. Never tried that again.

I assume if any amount of water would get past the first flap, its going to just drain out ???????

I just use the little red plastic thing that came on the truck. It seals pretty well I think.

Thats all I use. Has anyone really had issues from NOT having a cap, sure haven't heard anything. Lots of speculation, but in reality its just kind of an anal thing.

You can buy a plastic push in cap from dodge. It also plugs into the filler door.Live in Canada and didn't want snow and salt sitting in the filler neck.Works great
