Bad Fuel, need help finding good Cummins Diesel shop in the area

48re Accelerates When Engaged in Drive and Reverse

Maybe I missed it in an earlier post, what are you running for a lift pump?

Stock Carters, the last one I put on I thought had internal electrical problems but later found it was electrical at another location which prompted me to put a bypass switch direct from the battery in case it reared it's ugly head again.

David, just noticed this over coffee this morning.

Don’t hesitate to reach out if I can help...

Thanks Mike

Isn’t Nick close to where you are??
Now that you mention I think he is over in Snowflake just south of Winslow, probably 70-75 miles east of Flag. Think they have an RV park over there also when I was talking to a guy at the VA.

It sounds unlikely, but is it possible that you have a new bad pump out of the box? It happened to one of my neighbor's trucks a while back. He replaced his due to running at low pressure. The next one did exactly the same thing. Then we threw an old used one on that I had on my shelf from my old '01 and it ran fine.

The pump on there now is not new as it was on there when I was having the electrical issue and I changed it out to find the problem was somewhere else. I would really find it odd that 2 pumps can go approx. 20 miles with the exact same problem but who knows strange things happen. I have a brand new Raptor in the box unmolested I bought years ago but that requires more work than I would like to get into right now since it changes things to 1/2" lines if I remember correctly.

When you get up to it, that Raptor is the way to go. I ran FASS for many years on my 24-Valve with great results. But I think now that the Raptor is the way to go.

I don't want you to throw good money after bad, but would it be possible for you to run a parts store electric pump temporarily to see if you can move enough fuel to get you on the road? You should be able to find an old fashioned Holly Blue or similar at almost any parts store.

I think the vaseline/slime can come from microbial growth, also.
In my fruitless search for biocide I did see I think it was power service fuel conditioner which stated it removed slime. I am going to look real hard at the fuel line from the strainer to the pump just to see if anything looks odd to me. This is one of those almost overnight things. Drive it once 14 psi everything good. Drive it a few weeks later 12 psi on startup, check for leaks, none to be found. Leave Phoenix at 12 psi then 0 psi before we get to the truck break chk area before Payson turnoff. Been fighting it since.

Shoot him a PM, I'm surprised he hasn't joined in already....

I have been doing a bit of reading, and besides the normal dark muck associated with "the fuel bug", I have run across a couple comments that indicated the more clear, jelly-like, or as you said, vaseline-like substance seems indicative of high or degrading bio-diesel content. I keep hearing anecdotal stories of bio problems after fueling at Loves, but don't know if it's a wive's tale.

Update. I had enough fuel line to reach from where the strainer was to the pump. No change. Put my manual gauge on dirty side of filter, truck gauge is post filter. Read within 1psi. Bought the fuel/slime treatment over dosed to 30 gallons, I have between 10-15 in tank. Took it for a ride, same symptoms as of now. While I was putting the temp. line in I removed the vise grips, flow out of the 5/16 line was about 1/2 the pipe (not much). That flow is through approx. 3' of factory line from the module. Blowing back from pump to tank restores pressure somewhat around 12 and is usually 14. It has been a lot of years and cannot remember if the module has a hose from the module down into the fuel or if it is a plastic pipe. Maybe a module problem itself ?. One other thing that has changed in the last 2 days is the gauge may go to 3 or 0 while driving but coming to a stop may rise to 7 or 10 where it use to stay at zero. I may just order the $200.00 module from genos just to have it. Any thoughts on that ?

Anybody seen a bad load of fuel do something like this ?. Grabbing at straws now, without dropping the tank. Can't raise the bed with the fifth wheel hitch and 40 gallon combo tool box.

David, I had an acquaintance that had a problem with their fuel system that mirrors yours. As it turned out the fuel pick up tube in the tank was collapsing under load showing a drop in fuel pressure and loss of power.

Thanks for that. I just talked with Scott at geno's and ordered the module thinking If I have a restriction that is where it probably is and I do not want to drop the tank and wait on parts. My fuel gauge reads a 1/4 tank high anyway so maybe fix 2 things at once. The module will be here Wednesday for $38.00 shipping. Guess the the RV park will have to live with me dropping the tank.

I think your on the right track. Every experience I've had with contaminated fuel showed up in the filters.
Are you going to try and pump some of the fuel out before dropping? Maybe a 5 gallon bucket or 3 with lids from a home improvement store. Or maybe the 3 Gallon bucket/lids would fit under the truck with a rubber hose extension out of the drain on the water separator canister....
Would make R&R alot easier and the buckets could be reused for something else once cleaned up. I'm sure you have a good plan, just throwing some thoughts out there.

David, If you want to farm out that job I'd suggest R&R auto on the east side of town. I actually worked there as a kid and just recently had lunch with the owner, good people. Maybe that will get you out of trouble with the RV park.

Thanks Grant I will give that some thought

I have the 40 gallon aux. about half full, figure I have maybe 10 gallons in the main tank and I have the aux. pump and filter with the hose I used the last time when I had to do this. The plan is to treat both tanks with biocide as I already did the slime today, hook up the aux. pump and pump through the filter into the aux. tank and when done pump some back to the main tank to test. I may have a little slime going on but the problem seems so consistant I do not think it's algae but I will treat it with the biocide anyway.

This one Grant ?. I get real nervous when someone else works on my vehicles. It's a good recommendation fro a fellow member tho.

If it were me, I'd go with R&R. They come with a good recommendation from GrantP and I don't know about you, but at my age (70) I don't bend and twist as well as I did ten years ago. It's frustrating enough when it happens on the home front but on the road and with limited facilities just compounds the situation.

Yeah, giving it some serious thought. Like everything it all comes down to money. At 65 a tri level fusion and the cancer project I am a little on the toasted side myself
