Leaking steel diesel fuel tank

Snow plowing - Auto or standard?

I for one don't believe the 6. 0L was tested very extensively. Seems like one day they had the 7. 3L and everything was going smooth. The next thing anyone knew the 6. 0L was showing up at dealerships about the same time they were making the announcement it would be the next generation of diesel engine in F-Series. Whatever the case there wasn't much time in there.

Also FWIW... I've been told in the past that International and Cat are partnering their on-road technology with International being the one to bring it to market. Seems to me as if ACERT technology may still be on the drawing board. Cat had objected to recent demands by the EPA and threw in the towel on on-road engines... but they've still got alot of money wrapped up in R&D they'd like to probably recover some and still get their ideas out there. Since International is not going the way of urea fluid... I suspect CAT helped that out.

Had to bring this one back...

Was sitting with my Father and Brother-in-laws last night as they were discussing their oil leaks, fuel leaks, this leak and that leak with their best truck in the world, Furds.

I just kept to myself with a grin on my face. :D

And my brother-in-law was telling before hand that he was talking with two guys that morning, one with a 6. 4 and a lot of problems and one with a 6. 0 and a lot of problems as both guys were going to buy a new "Scorpion" upon release.

Is it me, or do these guys just love the punishment they receive?

We were out playing in the snow a couple weeks ago, and one of the kids has a 04 powerstroke. Funny thing is he didn't want to leave until he got to here my truck running. Randy:-laf:-laf

I wouldn't say that all Ford owners are stupid, I would say that anyone who has had major issues with a given make and model of truck and then blindly buys the newer version of said vehicle because of the "I always buy brand X" mentality is stupid.

My cousin has a 6. Oh-no powerstroke. He's a mechanic by trade. The truck is in excellent condition and is bone stock. He got an awesome deal on it. He knows the issues these trucks can have and he's not stupid.

Ditto.

Like most of my inlaws, they brag about their Furds, but then complain about the leaks and other issues they have. Then go buy another one. And can not tell you one thing about their engine, except for it being a Powerjoke!

They'll also say that the Cummins is a great engine then say that the Furd runs better. Say what?

There are so many examples.

Some people simply will not allow facts or objective new information to influence their opinions. They believe what they choose to believe and reject all information that would challenge their beliefs.

Its the same thing with the street car people i know. They think that fixing problems all week so you can go to a cruise night is the "norm". I can't figure them out. Randy:eek:

yes sir mr. black , you brought this one back at the perfect time. a little story for ya. thursday last week i went to the job site to do some last minute dozer work before getting hit by a snow storm and being shut down for 4 to 5 day's. anywho, after chking the fluids on my case dozer with just under 3400 hrs, i crank her up and let her idle while i go over to my trackhoe and and repeat the same process. by the time i got off the trackhoe and headed back to the dozer, i could hear it wasnt running. long story short, after chking every possible issue that could normally go wrong, i was starting to realize the engine really wasnt sounding the same while cranking over. i pulled the the front valve cover and turned it over , no action. pulled the second[ this is a b series cummins btw] , no action there either. well after seeing dollars signs, i call my old buddy who's been a certified case/cummins mechanic for many many years. He proceeds to tell me there are 3 possible scenarios. first the killer dowel pin may have struck. second the cam gear may have slipped, and need to be replaced. and 3rd, the cam may have broke just behind the gear. he then went on to tell me about how cummins had had some issues for a couple of years with cams breaking on the b series, he's had to replace more then a few over the years. now with over 11 , 3. 9 or 5. 9 engines currently under my ownership, it's safe to say i have a sweet spot for these little engines. it's going to be friday or saturday before the mechanic gets my dozer torn into and finds just what the damage is gonna cost me, but i can tell ya this, the 1400 to $ 2,000 this is going to cost me couldnt have happened at the worst time. btw, 6 out of 11 of my cummins engines have oil leaks form either the rear mains, the tappet covers or the valve covers.

yeah but a 6point uh-oh wouldn't even move the dozer.....

Joking aside-All manufacturer's have their faults and the Cummins has them too. I think the late model PS's have won the title of most costly repairs.

I don't know what it is, but I have heard that Cases' have alot of problems like that. The two in-laws mentioned in my first post both work with heavy equipment as well and say that a Case is inCase you can't get anything else.

I'll still take a CTD over a Powerjoke anyday.

Sounds to me it's more of a Cummins problem than a Case problem, but since the B series is pretty much just a joint venture between Cummins and Case, I guess you're right, too.

i guess you really had them pegged right, your inlaws really are morons. probably part of the young generation that lives and breaths Caterpillar or John deere arent they? typical of many who dont have enough experience to have been on anything else, much less owned their own equipment. of course, maybe they just have Case envy cause they can come with Cummins engines. either way, i dont care who the engine or equipment maker is, every last one of them has turned out some fine products, and some fricken duds! As for my problem , it's not a Case issue it's a Cummins issue. for a short time Cummins purchased cams from brazil in these engines, and recieved a bad run of them. i was one of the lucky ones. after tearing into mine today i found mine was broken. inspection of the kdp also showed it was on it's way out too. an updated cam , and tabbing the dowel pin will turn this engine/machine into a fairly bullet proof money maker...

Doesn't matter who makes it. . ANY of them can break!!!... I've seen Fords break, Dodges break, Chevy's break, Cats, Cummins, Case, J/D, Porsche, BMW, NASA...

Actually, my father-in-law has been doing that type of work for about 25 years. But yes, they are all Deere and Cat people, though don't own any Cat gear, saying it's all over priced.

I don't take much of what they say seriously though, after all they do swear on Furds and Bowties.

I remember hearing about the Brazilian built cams. Glad you got it fixed.

swearing by a product is all fine and good, if it really has treated you well, and overall has a good rep for doing the same for other's, regardless of brand. this being said, a consumer really should do their homework when buying a product. what was junky and unreliable 5 to 10 years ago may be a fine product now, or just the opposite. i have been scolded for buying dodges more time's then i can remember, sometimes from people who suffered issues while they owned them, sometimes by people who had no clue what they were talking about . i'am not loyal to any brand, but there may be certain models/series within any brand i'am loyal to.

very true. But when nasa breaks, i wanna be far enough away that i need optics to see it!

If you're scared... just say youre scared... hahahaha...

Actually, the last time Nasa made a MAJOR oops, I was 4 wheeler riding in the sloughs of Huxley Bay, (Toledo Bend) business picked up in a hurry that morning. . I thought they were after me!!!

i remember that mishap. seems parts landed down in that region, as well as around Tyler. either way, being 6 mi north of marshall, i still heard the boom. . i didnt get skeered though!
