The title says it all, how far will these things go after the Distance To Empty reads 0? I was on the highway recently and got caught between towns, I ended up going about 14 miles after DTE was 0. I figured I would be OK, but I have no idea when I should REALLY start to get nervous.

I've done 30 miles while running my tank down to do the vent kit.

Dodge allows a 10% reserve after DTE reaches 0. This leaves you with about 3-3. 5 gallons. If you get 16 mpg, you could theoretically go 50 miles or so.

Reminds me of a Seinfeld episode where Kramer drives the car until it runs out of gas for the thrill of it.

I went about 6 miles past in order to get the tank as low as possible to do the vent kit. I'll tell you that when I dropped the tank I poured about 6-7 gallons out of it (one 5gal bucket within an inch or two of the rim and another between 1/4 and 1/3 full). I then put that same 6-7 gallons back into it to get me about 6 miles to the filling station. That was on a tank that had a mix of city/highway driving so I probably got around 18mpg on that tank.

So total I had 12 miles or so. I've heard of 20 maybe more.

Let me rephrase, 46 more miles when DTE was 0! Not my proudest moment.

I went 50 when I did my vent kit. There was about a gallon left, and as luck would have it, I made it the mile to the station and ran out 10 feet from the pump. It took 4 guys to get me the last 10 feet.

I Went 50 While Pulling My Horse Trailer Which I Usually Average 9mpg With. I Ran It Dry But I Have An Aux Tank That I Switch Over To And Never Missed A Beat.

Don't know how far, but I drove for half an hour after reaching 0, not going over 35 mph (surface streets, not highway) trying to get to diesel. Had I known how far these things would actually go past DTE, I wouldn't have had to endure the ridicule from my friends I was driving to lunch at the time.

at 0 DTE I can only get 27 to 28 gallons in it, so there is about 7 left in there. 7 gallons at 15 mpg = 105 miles, but I wouldn't push it that far.

I just did the vent kit mod last weekend. Drove my truck at least 50 miles after it hit 0. When I dropped the tank, I still had about 2 inches in the bottom.

Dte

Running empty, driving 55mph(pine cone glued to acceleretor pedal and me barefoot) I made 67 miles past dte 0. No vent kit yet. I always seem to have the extra time to fill all the way up. It took 39. 785 gallons and I had 821 miles. To those folks who will claim BS I say slow down, way down ya'll are the reason fuel costs so much. If we were all more conservative with our driving we would use less fuel. This is the first diesel I have owned and it is 5 times the truck I used to have. It is heavier, more powerful, has two drive axles, can carry more, has more gears, more interior room, and gets better mileage than the 300I6 I used to own could have ever imagined.

S L O W D O W N!!!!!! Ya'll remember the slogan "55 saves lives" ?

IT SAVES FUEL TOO!!

BRAVO!!! I agree 100%. Drive what you want, but drive responsibly! Drive the speed limit, avoid fast accelleration, keep you eyes focus far ahead so that you can react to traffic flow (signal changes and such). The earlier you're off the fuel pedal, the more fuel you save.

JUST SLOW DOWN!

Mine hit 5 DTE and it switched to a flashing (low fuel) and I went another 26 mile, not enough ball's to go further.

Never taken mine past 0 DTE. I lack the intestinal fortitude to press to test! Took her to 10 (if memory serves me right) trying to find a diesel pump between Miles City, MT and Glendive, MT. Made me super nervous. I couldn't agree with you 55 MPH guys more. I played with mine with three different trips of 200 miles round trip. One at 75, 65, and finally 55. The 55 MPH trip netted me 24. 8 or . 9 MPG. People went around me like I was sitting still. But for a 7,460 pound vehicle to get 24 MPG, I can't complain. Just my two cents.

hmm I can typicaly put in 32 at this point.

Farthest I have tried was 90 miles, while doing the vent mod I tweaked the rod the float is on so it reads a little closer now :D
