I don't speed often, but when I do, it makes me nervouse... a little re-assurance that I'm safe from cops would be nice. :D

Which radar detectors are most effective?

I have a Whistler I picked up at Wal-Mart for about $100 bucks. It works pretty good most of the time, it's not that great intown tho.

The best of the best is the Valentine One. They consistantly do a better job of filtering out junk, and they tell you how many radar signals and from what quadrant.

Mike is a good guy. And their customer support is the best. Mine is ten years old, I went to their web site to see if it needed updating. All you do is enter your serial number and you get a list back of the improvements over the years.

heard alot about the escort radar detectors, but was very satisfied with a cobra i had at one time. it talked to me and eveything, untill my dumb room mate pawned it off while i was visiting back home :{ :{ :{

Anything is better than nothing... get a V1, or Escort, or Bel - any of them will make you a more attentive driver - keeps an honest man honest.

Personally, I drive with the Escort Passport 8500.

I disagree that anything is better than nothing... if you've got a piece of junk that doesn't alert you when you NEED it to alert you, it's worse than not having anything and driving on full alert!

I will also agree the Valentine One as the best piece available. With the amount of miles I drive a year it was money well spent... ... ... . Andy

Fuzz Buster of the year!!!!!

Seriously the Valentine is a serious unit. As with ALL units you absolutly have to have it so radar / laser can be in plain view of the unit for proper responce!!!! A have played with the valentine and the one time I was caught NOT using it cost me the price OF the unit :( So a worthy investment indeed if it will save your butt but will also help ya is to be (Now don't flame shoot me here) a MINDFUL speeder. ;)

Valentine it is! :D

Most of the guys around here use Cobra... but ignorance reigns around here, so I figured I better ask the people who really know what's going on!

Thanks everyone!

Buy the best, never regret it later

CB,

I have always found by past experience that when I purchase the best product, that I remain satisfied with the choice long after the pain of the purchase price has been forgotten.

My V1 is now ancient. I even forget when I bought it, but it was prior to 1991 as that was when I used to fly thru the Texas plains and New Mexico at sub-sonic speeds. Let's just say usually the speed limit plus 30 or 40. I had to travel 500-600 miles a day and still get in 6-7 hours of actual work done at the oil field sites I visited each day.

You can't do that and stay legal.

What I like about the V1 best is that it is upgradable for a minimal fee. However, when I talked to Mike Valentine about it last year, he asked me what I use it for now that I have left the big fast lanes of the West. (vacation driving)

He told me that the only real significant advantage to a new or upgraded unit was that it has better false signal filtering in it now. IF being able to ignore one or two false signals is worth the upgrade fee, then go for it.

After due consideration, I passed on the upgrade. Mike Valentine said the V1 of 1990-1991 is 99% as good as a 2004 unit, so why waste the money.

Now if the vendor tells you to save your money, that tends to make me believe not only in the product, but the unit as well.

2 cents gone...
