Oh, I missed that since the thread was about the gearing of the G56. Shoulda read your signature, I guess. Sorry!!CUMMINZ said:My 2100 is with Auto and 4. 10s. Factory tires.
klenger said:My Honda Accord dosn't tow my trailer for crap. I wonder if Honda is going to do a recall on it? Duh !!!
JFaulkner said:My Prelude towed my Waverunner just fine, just burned gas like crazy. Guess I should have called for a goverment investigation as to why my fuel milage was so horrible, and made honda change the gearing huh?
If you can't afford the fuel, sell the truck. Or even better yet, sell the camper. With the money you get from it you could pay the extra cost for the fuel your "Gears" burn.

Cali-600 said:The answer is 2200 RPM @ 70MPH 3. 73 with stock tires on a G56.
Thats even higher than your 48RE with 4. 10 gears, (scratch, scratch)
Now if you have owned a older Dodge and bought a new 2006 with what you thought was 3. 73 gears you would be very disapointed.
Very misleading!
Buffalo said:The 2100+ rpm recommendation is interesting. At May Madness, the head engineer in charge of building our engine said that the "Sweet Spot" for fuel efficiency was in the 1800-1900 rpm range.

Bingo!! Oo.4 wheelssmoking said:Remember that the trucks we have are intended for work. A diesel engine is normally a torque rise engine. You should cruise above peak torque and as the rpms drop under load, the fat part of the curve wil keep the engine from lugging. Best economy will be had with this technique. [this is noticed more if you are loaded heavily]

My 06 with G56 3:73 and stock tires works out to the exact RPM I am see now (using Klengers graphs) Sure I would have ordered the 3:45's if they made them, but I will not be disappointed because I knew about this before I ordered it.
SThorud said:This has to be one of the most ridiculous statements I have ever seen... A recall because they geared the truck shorter than before.![]()
A difference of about 150 rpm in 6th between the NV5600 and G56 means about as much difference in fuel economy as having a bug shield or not.

Cali-600 said:Sounds like you alread ordered a 2006. And why may I ask did you go with 3. 73 gears if you say you were happy with your 4. 10 gears you had in your 2002?
You are a prime example of what i am talking about.
Now that you have seen the chart you say that you would even opp for the 3. 42 gears if they offered them.
TowPro said:Dodge would never tell us, but my bets are that the 3:45's could not pass emissions for highway speeds. They do check emissions for highway speeds, remember the recall on the 98'5's where they reflashed the ECM for emissions over 55mph? (and everybody's MPG went down)
Both Cummins and Dodge got sued by the EPA over that one.
