I'm thinkin agout swappin out my g56 for a 5600 before it breaks. I've put about 20 hooks on it. I pull in 2nd hi. This is the g56 in my 06 currently at 700hp. It's got 10k on it (300' at a time does't add up very quick). I seen and heard about alot of these breakin this past year sled pullin. It seams the input shaft bearing is not supported good enough in the case and it will wear the case and the other problem is there are no bearings in the center of the counter shaft just one in the front and one in back, so when you pull it pushes the shaft away until its riding on the edge of the teeth and evently it strips the teeth of whatever gear your pullin in. Seen this happen twice on a 900 hp truck this year. He had several pulls at the 700hp range. His second pull with 9 it sripped 2nd gear, put a brand new one in it and did it again on the first pull. I've talked to Blumenthals and they say there will never be a fix because you would have to design a different case to fix those 2 problems. They did say pullin 2nd hi is easier on it because it's a bigger gear closer to the bearing than 4th low, but pullin an the high side of the tranfer case is ALOT harder on the tranfer. I would rather break a transfer case than a trans. though. I'm curios to here anyone else's opinions or experiences. How many miles? How much hp? How many hooks? What gear were you pullin? What broke? I'm also wandering how they are holding up under normal abuse like hevy towing with mods or daily driving because I have one in my 97 tow rig. With what I'm seeing there may be alot of guys going back to the 5600.
