It's a light duty transmission. I read about a guy that got tired of rebuilding his NV5600 (he rebuilt it 3 times) and then installed a Fuller 6sp. sinchronized from a medium duty truck. It did not look that hard, especially on 2wd.
I personally talked to Monty at Blumenthal's. He was really knowledgeable and I know they do great work for a fact. They are in OKC.

Thanks. I sure thought it would be Medium duty. Will wait for them to open. Walkin to the restaurant to get coffee.

Let us know what exactly failed in yours. What fluid were you running?

Truck is at Blumenthals in OKC. Those guys really know what they are doing. Mr. Blumenthal himself showed me around the place giving me a personal tour and watching over the workers tearing apart the G56 to find the root of the problem. Believe me he was on them to get going and get me back on the road as quick as possible. Hope to be completed today. Arrived on the wrecker yesterday about 12:30. Will post later when I hear from them.

You were fortunate to be close to either Blumenthals or Standard, the two premier Ram standard transmission builders in the US.

Apparently Blumenthals has the capability to do the R&R also.

Wow, that worked out well! Did he let you take any pictures of the place?

--Eric

I never thought of pictures to tell you the truth. I was just impressed by the quality of the place and how clean and organized. They even have a kitchen to cook for the workers and customers.

Well I got the truck back the first of this week. It shifts great. I went ahead and put a new OFE clutch disk in it and the pedal pressure is easier then ever. Don't know what the deal is there, but I like it. Installed fast coolers and filled transmission to level using 8 quarts with Amsoil. Overfilled with one extra quart using the fill plug on the collers, so I have 9 quarts total in it. Got to hook my temp sensor to it to keep eye on it when towing. I hope this transmission will last longer then the first time.

BTW Standard got my transmission fixed under what the quoted me originally which was nice also.

Standard's recommending Pennsoil Synchromesh per the DTR article. Did they discuss that with you?

Well not really had a discussion. I ask them if they would sell me some Pennsoil and they said yes. Crazy thing is I threw the box of extras in the back of the truck (throw out and pilot bearing and fast coolers also in box) and when I got home and opened it the fluid was Amsoil synchromesh synthetic.

Back home finally. Truck ran fine and happy with the job at bloominthals. Great big thanks to jay of timelessconstruction for taking me to get the truck. The bearings were bad and one of the synchronizers, new one was a bit stiff at first but it did the job. They did say to change the fluid after about 20k to get the breakin oil out of it. I forgot to ask what kind of oil they recommend. Thanks again Jay.

I put Synchromesh oil in mine. Shifts smoother than ATF.
