Decided to get rid of the ATF4 that Dodge uses to lubricate my G56 6 speed transmission. I have heard that most of the failures occur because of over heated bearings due to lack of sufficient lubrication. I drained the trans and pumped in 6 quarts of 75-90 Royal Purple synthetic gear lube. The transmission shifts ok except when really cold, then it is sometimes difficult to get into 1st gear. I can live with that knowing that there is some real lubrication happening. Then I began to wonder what does the transfer case use for lubrication? Is it also ATF4 and like in some "married" transmission/transfer case units is it possible for the fluids to mix through the input/output bearings where they are connected? Don't know what the consequences of that happening would be but I'm guessing that the two fluids are not compitable. Any ideas?
