After reading the article in the new TDR concerning the G-56,I spoke to one of the guys at ST. For my situation(constant 2000# camper load and warm climate) they do recommend the RP Synchromesh. I've used Amsoil Universal ATF for 24,000 now. I'll listen to some more feedback before I make a move if any. The Amsoil gave me marginal cold weather shifting performance.

I did the 30k oil change on my G56 and after calling Standard trans, I put the Amsoil Synchromesh (7qts) in mine. It made a BIG difference in shifting smoothness!
I have put about 750 miles on the new oil. The trans is quieter (I ditched the DMF and put in a CON-OFE) hot or cold. It takes less pressure to shift. It shifts much smoother when cold. My truck has 32,000 mi on it.
I sure wouldn't put something in that would harm my trans. I feel My oil switch was a good choice. The Amsoil Synchromesh oil is is a 5/30wt. I think that ATF is about a 5wt oil.

In the realm of things... Red Line MTL is the thickest, Amsoil MTF is the middle, and Royal Purple is the thinnest among those three synchromesh fluids. Only Royal Purple states it can be used in place of an ATF, for what that's worth.

I am pulling a fifth wheel and 100 Gal fuel in bed tank and 50 gal of water in trailer tool box and 4000 watt gen. MY total weight is 23. 000+ I have pulled it a little over 40. 000 miles. I have changed all of my transmission fluids and all transfer and rear ends oils. I ONLY use what the book says and change it like it tells me to. I go south for the winter TX MO OK NM AZ CAL IL TN AR KY. So I have ran flat and mountains roads with very go luck. === Good Luck==

Yeah... But the NV5600 uses the thicker Synchromesh oil as stock.

I have sold and installed many, many quarts of the Amsoil ATF+4 in the G-56 transmissions, and have never had one of them come back unhappy!

I have a pair of Trans-cool covers on my G56 with no problems. I'm wondering how much ATF4 I should be using. I've always filled til it starts coming out. If I'm supposed to over fill by one quart, as I've read, how do you get that quart in?

Either you can jack or drive the truck up on a side hill on the side where the fill plug is or pull the shift tower off and dump it in there. I did the later as I changed my oil in my trans.

The Amsoil ATF"Universal" has a viscosity of 7. 6 cSt@100 C. The newer spec for GM Dexron VI & Ford Mercon LV & DP require a lower viscosty, so the Amsoil "LOW VISCOSITY" ATF has a vocosity of 6. 0 cSt@100 C. They both have a "POUR POINT" of -63 F.

I have been using what the book says to use and have 187,000 miles on my G56. I changed the fluid every approximately 60,000 and am going to do so this week again. I haven't had any problems at all to mention other than when i installed the SBC it became a bit notchier to shift. I pull approximately 35% of the time.

I just purchased Amsoil ATF due to everyone's testimonials about the trans. shifting much smoother with Amsoil and i figured that maybe it will help some since the trans. has a lot of mileage. Am i doing the right thing? I'm really worried because i always use what is recommended and never had any issues with anything yet.

I don't think you will have any problems concerning the Amsoil ATF, as it does meet as well as surpass the spec. from Chrysler(Mopar)
