I used Pennsoil prior to the smf conversion. It was recommended by Standard Transmission and worked great.I had two G56 trannys, one in my 2005 one in my 2012. I found that they seemed happiest with the Pensoil Syncromesh gear lube. The 2012 would shift really hard with the factory ATF lube when it got hot. Royal Purple makes a similar product that if I still had the G56 I'd give a try.

The conversion yielded marbles in the trans sound necessitating a thicker fluid.
Also, when changing the G56 lube/fluid.....
It is highly recommended that you add an extra quart. This helps insure better lubrication of the main bearing. And can be added through the hole after removing the shift lever
Since you have a 2wd, not sure how your center console comes off. But I bet one bolt is under one of the cup holder liners?
Mine is 4wd with the transfer case lever on the floor. So the other bolt is under the boot for the transfer case.
