I took the recommendation many o the Forum made and pulled my G56 transmission and New Process Gear 273D transfer case and shipped them to Standard Transmission & Gear in Ft Worth, Texas for rebuild. Transmission arrived late Friday (10/8) and by end of day Monday (10/11) they had the transmission and transfer case disassembled and inspected. Spoke to Joaquin and he stated the transmission and transfer case were in excellent overall condition and wondered why I sent them in??? I explained that I had my engine remanufactured and wanted to make sure the transmission and transfer case were rebuilt at the same time. Peace of mind mostly. I did explain that I was experiencing hard shifting in 2nd gear when starting out. I decided to post what Standard Transmission was recommending because it is different that DBM's NV5600 rebuild thread.

Any comments or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Huge shout out for Standard Transmission & Gear. Excellent customer service!
G56 Transmission
- Bearing and seal kit (recommended after any tear down)
- Synchros (mine were still 70-80% and Standard did not believe it was necessary to replace but I requested they go ahead and replace)
- Upgrade front bearing retainer from aluminum/pot metal to cast steel
- Upgrade reverse forks (early G56 transmissions only had spot welds on the reverse forks and is a known point of failure so Standard recommends welding the entire fork for additional strength)
- Remove passenger side Fast Cooler because it is too close to exhaust which defeats its purpose
- Oil - Amsoil Synchromesh - 8 quarts over fill with one Fast Cooler
- Chain and seal kit (chain was stretched so replace)
- Bearing kit (bearings were fine but I requested that they go ahead and replace)
- Oil - Amsoil Synthetic ATF
