I have a natural gas fireplace.

The pilot light will not stay lit, well, you can light it

and turn up the thermostat. The fireplace will burn for

20 minutes or so, then go out.

Any ideas before I call the professionals?

Make sure that the pilot flame is high enough and the flame is in contact with T/C. Make sure there is voltage (mV) from the thermocouple. Have you cleaned the T/C? Does the unit have a ON, PILOT, OFF, control?

give us more info, when you say the fireplace burns for 20 minutes are you referring to the pilot flame or the main flame? This unit is controlled by a wall switch? What happens after you light the pilot without turning on the main flame?? John

As said in upper post check the thermocouple could be bad. Also if it has a OD sensor it also could be going bad. Most of the time thermostats will go out all at once.

Usually it's the thermocouple, a cheap part to replace. If that does not fix it, it's time for a new thermostat :{
